Hammer’s old cage was fine for him, but it wont be for rose.  I dont think being the 8 lb bunny that she is, will be able to get to the other levels easily.  When they are bonded, they will get a huge portion of my room, Id guess about 5×12.  Well i plan on putting a cage in there, just for their enjoyment. It wont need to be closed, because it will be in a 5×12 NIC encloser.  Im thinking I could maybe cut a big hole in the side and somehow make a stair, ramp, jump thing to the different levels from the outside of the cage and simply close up the holes in the floor that Hammer used.  Make sense?  Any ideas?!?  I just want to use it because I spent around $200 or more building it, plus countless hours of building.  And of course Hammer loves it, he still tries to get in it during playtime when he is out.  I could also do a 4 cube long, 2 cube wide and 3 cube high condo, so I could close them into a cage, if I ever need them confined for awhile.  Any ideas for saving the cage?  Lets brainstorm!  It would be such a waste to not use it, all it needs now is a coat of paint on the top.  Put on your thinking caps lol

Hi Liz It would be a shame not to use it. It’s worth trying Rose in there when she’s ready, she may manage, and if it’s just for entertainment, I don’t see the size being an issue. As long as she can get thru the openings. It would be like a deluxe bunny maze! I imagine they’d enjoy it, they seem to like to squeeze into places you wouldn’t think they could fit!

lolz…too bad you’re not closer, Liz, I’d try to snake that away from you and leave you my two Superpet pens and an xpen for exchange. ^_^

Looks so cute with the peaked roof! ^_^ Oh, I hope Rose will learn to love it.

Pippi is a pretty hefty girl, and she gets up and down her ramp to her second level pretty well. (Needless to say, it is bowed with her efforts and I need to do something to give it more support!) You may be surprised at what Rose could do if given the chance.

Mimzy is a little champ at scaling levels. And the other day, he tried going right up my arm and over my shoulder during a particularly gnarly grooming session. >.< Almost made it, too…porky little thing!

Well i feel better now that ive got some hopeful support!! I really hope it works, I dot know how we would even get it down the steps to store it lol. It weighs so much, that if we were to move it downstairs we would have to take it apart by levels lol.

what about taking the doors off the first and second floor so they could just jump to those levels from the outside and making the “roof” floor opening larger so it’s like just a small lookout area? Rose might be able to maneuver her way around there, you’re not gonna know for sure until you try. so then you’ll have a permanent grid enclosure attached around it?

Awesome idea Beka! So simple and im sure that would work. Then the very top could remain closed and I could just make the hole big enough for her. And yes that will sit inside a large permanent nic encloser, along with a small condo so I can close them into a cage if need be for guest, kids, cleaning and fluke cases. That should work and wont cost me anything! Ive not seen Rose jump yet, but im sure she will over time here. I put in a small 1×2 shelf in each pen last night. Hammer slept on his, right next to my bed and the perfect height so that he was right next to me while we slept : ) I put a raisin on Rose’s so hopefully it will be gone soon.

I would maybe leave a door on each level so it is not completely open and feels more “den like” at least on half of the cage.

^that’s a good idea too! could you anchor the door so it doesn’t swing open at random tho?

Yup I’d sooo keep that and encorporate it in the design-Very cool!!!

I’d just build the Cubes around it, like it’s part of the wall, and you wouldn’t have to cube all the way behind it and you could just make a ramp or a step so they could come and go?

^^^ yes im thinking ill have to maybe build a ramp to the second level even. Rose hates to jump and im afraid she will slide across the slick floor. But ive been toying with the idea of ramps today. Now im trying to figure out of the ramp could come off real easy for cleaning and for getting to the cage behind the ramp for easy cleaning
