So tomarrow is the day.. Her appt. is at 8:00am And i was wondering if there is any advice on making her as comfortable as possible once I get her home??  The doctor already told me to make sure she eats all the way up to her appt.  and to bring some of her favorite foods for her as soon as she wakes up from surgery so i’m going shopping for her tonight so that she has nice fresh food tomarrow…   i Know shell be okay i just still feel so nervous

Make sure you get Metacam (a pain killer) – don’t leave the vet’s with out it.

She won’t be eating for probably the first 24 hours once you get her home. I would get her some of her favorite greens – you still want to encourage her although she won’t feel like it since she’ll be on some heavy duty pain meds from the surgery.

Also really clean her area out before you put her back.

I find that it usually takes around 72 hours for the females to get back to normal since the surgery is more invasive than a neuter.

Ditto the metacam. Don’t be embarassed to ask or put your foot down! Don’t leave without it

You may want to pick up some critical care while your there (it does last a long time!) and if you don’t have grocery/phamacies open 24h in your area, it’s a good idea to get some pedialyte and baby food (pumpkin/squash/carrot?) to have on hand just in case.

TRIPLE DITTO on the pain meds! she’ll get a pain injection after the surgery but i believe those wear off in 24 hours. not all vets give pain meds, they say that the pain injection is enough but 9 out of 10 times it’s not enough, so if they don’t mention take home meds, ask for them specifically. keep her confined for at least 3 days, if after that she is recovering well, you can let her out for a short length of time in a small area, but make sure to watch she’s not overdoing it (try to limit her jumping onto furniture for about a week).

Yeah clean litterbox so you can follow the poops and urine.  They will be smaller and the urine may have a little blood in it my vet told me. Only thing i saw was small poops. Watch the jumping about.  You can talk to her a lot and pet her some too. She will feel better knowing you love her. We can’t help but being nervous. They are our delicate little babies.

aww! it’s okay! i get the same way! i was a wreck waiting for Mead’s spay. i drove home from the vet crying… i have the bad habit of always thinking the worst. surgery is risky, there’s no two ways around it, but you just have to relax and be confident in your vet. easier said than done, right?
