› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › What’s in a name?
OK, I admit it’s hard for me to select a name, so please indulge me.
We are finding that Samantha is a bit of a mouthful to call her all the time, and she doesn’t seem to know it’s her name. So Mum and I have been wondering whether maybe it’s not.
So, we were running other names by each other now that we know what she looks like and how she behaves a bit more. BTW, my brother got her a hay tunnel that she loved this morning, though when I moved her cuddle cup out to make room, she thumped for the first time. NEW toy does not mean REMOVE OLD toy! Thank heaven my cage is too big for her. Not for her stuff. I digress.
Was thinking about shorter, ie. two syllable, feminine names. Plus Bunnykins of course.
Thought of Gidget.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? You like? She just hasn’t told me her name yet and I’m just not sure if I’m on the wrong track.
More pix: she dragged her cuddle cup over to her food dishes last night, sat in it, and leaned over to eat. So clever, and silly to see.
She is so sweet! I like Samantha Bunnykins but I’m sure she’ll tell you her name soon…it will just come out of your mouth and you’ll realize it’s her name.
i love the name Samantha! i have a niece named Samantha, Michael called her “Manta” when he was younger, so now it’s kind of stuck… you could always do Sam or Sami…
It is OK to change the name, Kahlua was ‘dusty’ or ‘dustmop’ and some other weird names for a couple of weeks while we picked out her name!! I do like samantha, but two syllable names for pets are best, since commands (ie. “NO”) are one syllable it helps them not get confused. But maybe you call her Sammy or bunkins
Either way she’s Kyyyooot!!
Those eyeliner buns. I always nickname them cleo for cleopatra and males tony for Marc Antony. Those eyeliner buns remind me of old egyptian eyeliner in the movies.
Maybe even Nefertiti. Nefer for short? I was thinking maybe egyptian name for her. IN the end it is your choice. Not mine.
Hey if you are interested in those type names maybe look up old egyptian leaders pharoah’s and women leaders or egyptian names websites. I am sure you could find something suitable if that is your preference.
Maybe even Revlon or something. Ok I am being silly. I dont’ care for Revlon makeup one way or the other. anyways![]()
Have fun.
Oh I know in arabic kohl is called antimony maybe timon ? Maybe my names are just too weird I dont’ really like normal everyday people names for buns. I like to be different.
Yeah my friends can tell cause I got a cougar for a ringtone on my cellphone. I found a neat website conservationcalling.com.ringtones I got the cougar and canaries for my hubby when he calls me.
I used to have a bull. A big angry moooo . Startled the busdriver one day when it went off he was looking in the street for a loose cow ahahaaa. HE slowed down and looked ahahaaa.
And my son was a werewolf for when he called me. Sounded more like a haunting of a ghost to me. they ahve neat rintones on that site. And they don’t email you either. A onetime charge and thats it.
How did I end up no this subject my mind just meanders around sometimes. have to excuse it. ![]()

I too have gotten used to Samantha and the Bewitched connection but if you feel it doesn’t fit…….maybe Samantha can be her second name along with Bunnykins. Then when she’s in trouble you can do the full name reprimand thing. “Dah-Dah Samantha Bunnykins, I’ve told you once, I’ve told you twice….”
Gidget is a cute name – fits a bunny, or even Bridget (as in Bardot) with those eyes! Bridget Bunnykins so her initials would be BB! Isn’t Bridget Bardot a big animal advocate? “Samantha” looks like a Panda also with her markings.
Have you got any others you’re tossing around? Often a name will stick if you see references to it through out the day or week. It’ll just keep popping up where you least expect it.
Edit to add: Weird! For some reason I just thought of “Joni” from Happy Days. (??
??)
Then you could get her a boyfriend and call him Chachi ![]()
Happy Days ahaha. In the 90’s a song came out called the Fonze so the ex and I got out of the car and did the thumbs and aaaaaaa thing.
Our son looked at us like we just grew 3 heads. And we said yeah you know the Fonze remember. Then ex said oh yea he wasn’t born then. Ahahaaa poor kid poor us I felt old ahahaha. That felt so weird that he didnt’ know what we were talking about ![]()

Yep, i agree w/. calling her Sammi Bunnykins..
That she pulled her beddy over to her nommies so she wouldn’t have to go far to get to them is so like Pip it’s scary! ^_^ And I love hte story about the tunnel…lolz. It must be that purple pen of hers…royalty sure has it hard, huh? ^_^
She’s already training you to be a bunny slave…perhaps you should just call her “Master”? ^_^
hehe what a diva, love the tunnel story. No name ideas but that is one cute bunny!!
Beka, Mantha kind of worked for me this morning. My Mum keeps saying she doesn’t look like a Sammi (though I actually don’t have a problem with that) and no one likes Sam for her. But Mantha wasn’t bad. It may be that Samantha has a bit of stickum on the back after all, it’s just that when my nephews came up with JS Spock, I had that “aha that’s it!” feeling. I tried calling her Gidget this morning, but it was just another name.
And of course, Lambchop, my cat years ago, had a great name but he had a personality that would have been more suited to Atilla the Hun.
BT, I agree about the egyptian look, but after the 3 you’ve already mentioned for girls, they just didn’t quite suite her and were still too long. Did try those, though.
jerseygirl, Excellent suggestion about watching for synchronistic names appearing. A very witch-like method-perfect for us.
PiP?! Oy. I am the queen, she is the princess. *runs out to paint new apartment purple to suit our new castle*
Ugh. Double post. Need breakfast. Must leave for work. Want to stay home to play with bunny. Sigh.
A “moooooo ringtone? I want one!
Ironically, I would have easily called a boy Fonzie. I’ve just always thought I’d have boy animals, so am a bit unprepared.
Please keep those ideas coming. Samantha Bunnykins is still today’s name… How about SweePea?
Oh, and my Dad saw a little wild bunny in the driveway early this morning. They live around here, but never showed up like that. I think the word is out and her admirers are lining up…
Moo ringtones??? I was like “where’d that come from? until I re-read BT’s post. Totally missed it – lol
SweePea is verrry cute, I’m liking that one! How bout I randomly post it around on the boards and you’ll come across it and think ” Gee, that name just keeps popping up”.
I know, doesn’t work like that!
If you want a totally different name, you can do a search on Yahoo for bunny names and get hundreds of ideas.
I love Egyptian names too! My cat is named Nefera which means “beautiful”. I love the name Neferaru, after an Egyptian Princess. Guess that’s kind of long for a bunny though. Cleopatra’s sister was named Anaiis, which I also love.
She looks like a Lily to me. A cutie patooty Lily butt
One of the things I had meant to say in my earlier post, but that got lost during a net hiccup, was that you could use a few letters of the first name and a few letters of the last name…like Sabu…or Sambun. (In anime and manga, sometimes the long names are cut short to make them easier to relay to other otakus…like Fruits Basket is commonly referred to as Furuba.)
And of course, “Her Majesty” is also too long…
She looks so emo with those dark circles around her eyes. I can just hear the sarcasm now…lolz…..
She sure is an adorable bun though. I relate to your desire to sit at home with her exclusively, it’s days that one has to work elsewhere away from bunny that truly stink. >.<
lol Emo Bunnykins!
Whew! I had great success with my guys moving me in yesterday, then getting to work on time. They are so sweet – they returned the truck for me. I won’t move myself and Herself in for a few more days since this is major crunch week at work.
It seems that we are still calling her Samantha, so I think it’s final. MM, you are right though, and probably psychic, because this morning Sammykins just popped out. I am starting to like Sammy on occasion. Of course, she responds to none of it.
But she is getting to explore just a bit outside of her house, and is liking it. She has grown 5 ozs. since I got her. We weigh her on a food scale.
Must go to work. Must unpack. Must hire a masseuse…
that lil lady will probably have a laundry list of nicknames to choose from. this is why mine have issues responding (yeah right!), i call them by so many nicknames… lol!
I am also voting for Sammi Bunnykins.
“A laundry list of nicknames”, in no time at all – you know it!
I have a tendency to say Okay, a lot. Which I’m sure confuses little Kay. So most of the time she is KayBay – yep, that 2 syllable thing is good!
Hogeeze…how many nicknames do I have for each of my bunnies?? 0_o
Mimzy: Mimz, (we used to call him Madame) Mim, Mimzity-moo, Bunbun, Sweetie, Cuteh Bun, Queedy-boi (Sweetie-boy), Funneh Bunneh, Pork Bun, Fluffbucket, Hareball….
Pip: Pipsqueak, Pipcicle, Pipkin, Pippicus Rex, Pippi, Pippity-poo, Pippi-Dippi, Pippity-doo-dah, Princess, Bigwig, Pooflah, B-Pants McCrabby…lolz…. (you have to have watched Red vs. Blue to understand that one, I’m not going to spell it out)
Fiver: Fivah-Five, Widdle-bun, Hrairoo Minimus Rex, Spazz Bun, Zoombini, and assorted variations of some of the generic names that I jotted down for Mimzy….
Yup…and each time I come up with a new song for them, we get a whole load more. Yeesh.
MM, hope this is ok…….am starting new thread “Nicknames” using your post ^^. If you think of any more names, please add them! lol
Okay, no problem! ^_^ Sorry, I’ve been hijacking a few threads lately, haven’t I?
My apologies to everyone!
Hey, it’s the lounge, for chatting! No apologies needed! I think the names are great, so I didn’t want them to get lost in this older thread.
Yes that is cute moving her cushiony resting spot over to her food dish. Like pulling a chair up to the table for dinner. Might as well get comfy
I am somewhat partial to one syllable human names for some reason.
Bob, my new foster rabbit:

wow! they are all so cute! Bob with the newspaper in the container was great! he seemed to get so frustrated at the end, like “Fine! i’m going home then!”
i’m glad Phil got a good home, he is such a pretty bunny!
Steve… WOW!!!!!!! i could watch him all day, so much energy that lil guy!
and Pepper! oh, i have a special spot in my heart for black and white bunnies, she’s very sweet!
hope you don’t mind, i edited your post and added in the youtube links, that way it’s easier for everyone to view your videos…
Thanks for adding the links. I tried to embed them but it didn’t work. Steve is hilarious and does an incredible amount of binkies all the time! He was doing this for 5 minutes last night,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHvqnj4YVws
It’s surprising he runs around like that with no problems because he has a birth defect with his paws that cause them to turn out, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. He stands up on his hind legs for minutes at a time and I have to watch his “thumb” nail on his front paws.
oh! what a cutie!
Steve is a tripper! Bouncing round like a Puppy! The steve/penguin pic reminds me of Mumble from Happy Feet.
