Vet trip - should I take them together?

  A couple days ago, our two buns (who we’re in the process of bonding), got together unsupervised and fought. We found a minor bite wound on Yoshi’s shoulder, but it didn’t bleed at all, so we put some neosporin on it and have been checking it each day. Unfortunately, there were two other bites that we missed. One was about the same as the one we found, a little bit further down his back, and the other one was on his backside, and looks a little more sever. There’s a bit of dried blood in the wound, and it looks like it’s healing, but I’m worried that it might be infected since we didn’t get any neosporin on it for a couple days.
  
  I think I’ll take Yoshi into the vet tomorrow, but I’m not sure if I should bring Digby too. I’ve read that if one is taken alone, it can reset the whole bonding process. However, Digby tries to groom Yoshi’s wound when they’re together, and I’m worried he may make it worse. I only have the one carrier, which they can both fit in, and did well together on a previous trip to the vet. Should I just put one of them in a cardboard box next to the carrier?

  I just wanted to add that Yoshi is acting perfectly fine, other than not grooming Digby (which is understandable). He’s eating, pooping and running around. He still wants to cuddle with Digby when they’re together, I just have to keep Digby from overgrooming his wound. Digby definitely was the top bunny in the fight – he only seems to be missing a small tuft or two of fur.

  If I understand correctly, you’re just concerned about Digby grooming the wound while they’re travelling? If so, would you be able to cover the wounds for the trip so that they could travel together in the carrier? The car ride might be distraction enough in itself, but maybe wrap little Yoshi up in a sock, scarf, tensor bandage, legging… (I got lots of bun wrapping experience after Noelle’s spay because she kept ripping at her stitches). I guess it all depends on exactly where the wounds are if you would be able to cover them without causing a lot of unnecessary stress and discomfort.
  
  I wouldn’t want to transport the bunny in a box unless someone else was in the car to make sure the bunny stays in place – but I would also be concerned, as you are, about separating them undoing your bonding progress. I’m sure someone else will chime in with a brilliant solution!

  Stress helps form bonds, for example driving in a car or on a dryer…A vet trip may very well help them bond! And maybe you’d like the vet to look over the other bun too!

  i agree with BunnyMuffin. the car trip will probably be stressful enough that grooming is going to be the last thing on their mind. do you have someone who can go with you? if so, you can sit in the back seat to keep an eye on them…
  
  it’s good you’re taking them in. my boy Max got a small rip in his lip during a bonding fight and i did not notice until the vet examined him a week later. it was located so it wasn’t very noticable. at that point it was too late for her to sew it up without doing a bigger procedure and she didn’t feel it was necessary. these bonding bunnies keep us on our toes.
