It’s taken me a long time, but Leo seems to eat hay…but here’s my story/question.

Leo prefers me to make little hay balls for him.  I mush up all the hay in a little latticed rubber ball and he is entertained all day.  I just worry that he prefers to play w/ the hay rather than eat it.  He does the same w/ the hay in his hay basket.  He goes to town pulling it all out…so the condo looks like a bale has exploded.  I can’t even clean it up b/c then he does it all over again.  So I wonder if he’s eating the hay or just playing w/ it?

I’m sure there are other hay party bunns out there…so I really just want to know if I need to be highly concerned that he’s eating his hay.  I really don’t care about the mess or the hay loss b/c it makes him very freakin’ happy.

          LOL Hay party bunnies!

You could either watch closely to see if he’s eating, or after cleaning you could weigh out the hay you put in his ball and then weigh it once it’s scattered…I’d probably prefer to watch and see if he’s eating! If his poops are nice and round and dry, then he’s likely eating enough

Honey Bunny makes crop circles in his hay. So cute.  I do see him eating it though. Buns will usually eat the hay in their litterbox.  you could watch to be sure though

At this point….they have hay in the box, hay on the food floor, the hay ball (rubber) and a hanging hay ball.  I swear its everywhere.  I’ve always been about encouraging the hay eating…but now it’s just everwhere!!!!  I’ve tried to watch, but it’s kind of hard b/c he’s a licker & a teeth grinder, therefore, he always looks like he’s eating.  Good poops, so I guess I’m being too hypersensitive.  I guess b/c its such a mess!!!!
