O.K. it’s been a while since we’ve done this so I had to check in with everyone and see how you are all doing.  Don’t be ashamed, we need to keep each other going.   So, I’ll start with my update.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I have changed the days that I am on the board to Saturday & Sunday.  The reason?  Well, I’m making a lot of changes in my life and one of them is that I’ve decided to really hop on the diet/weight loss train and get real serious about this.  I am having trouble motivating myself and just having an elliptical at home is not enough and neither is just plain pilates or yoga, although I have lost 13 pounds since the beginning of September.  So, I joined a gym and am now on the “Bodybugg” system. It’s a device that you put on your arm to help you determine exactly how many calories you have burned.  It’s the same doodad they use on “The Biggest Loser” in case you have ever watched that.  It’s not a required thing, but  I feel that it will really help me decide how much I need to work out in order to burn more calories than I consume.

I also have my first session with a trainer on Tuesday.  I just met with him today to get things set up and hopefully this is really going to help.  I have to be honest and say that it was intimidating going to the gym, so many foreign-looking machines (it’s kind of scary) because the last time I was at a gym was over 20 years ago.    I really do wonder though, how people just show up at the gym and know what to work out on?  I have no clue.  I mean I have a trainer that will go over all this stuff but it costs extra and not everyone does that, not to mention you have to sign up and pay for sessions to learn about what to use and how.  I guess I am just a little dumbfounded.  I see everyone working out on the treadmills and ellipticals but nothing else.  It’s just really odd to me. Anyway forgive me, I just had to throw a few thoughts out there in case any of you have some insight on this and are willing to help a confused and overwhelmed person come to terms with being intmidated by strange and foreign-looking equipment.  Say, if you walked into a gym, what piece of equipment would you use and why?

Oh lordy, what did I get myself into?  Enough about me, what is going on with you?

Although i don’t work out as often as I should anymore, going to the gym and counting calories has helped me lose almost 70 pounds since February!

I need some motivation to get into the gym though! I’m still losing weight, but I need to gain muscle!!!!!

Scarlet! WOW! I’m glad you found a way to stay motivated and get on track! And 13 pounds is amazing!!!! Once it starts coming off, it will get easier and the more you lose, the more motivated you are to keep losing!

          Good luck everyone!

Thanks allenj1!  It looks like you are the only brave one to post so far.  WOW to you too, you lost 70 pounds!   Congrats!  Yes you should get to the gym, the best motivation is to find someone to join with you or who is already a member and you can be work out buddies.  Unfortunately I am not in that situation, I have to motivate myself and I really hope to make some big changes and I can just be that much prouder of myself that I did it on my own.   …Well with a teensy bit of help from the trainer.

The calorie control is what I am working on right now, I am logging everything I eat and although it is a pain, it is something I never really paid attention to.  I just focused on working out more because it is a pain to log everything you eat and count calories etc. I am also logging how many calories I am burning as well (this bodybugg is helping to do that for me).

Good luck allenj and everyone else too!   I hope more of you get on here and post!

The awesome thing about tracking calories is that you won’t eat that handful of whatever as you walk by it, cuz its too much of pain to log later! lol!
do you have a local YMCA or something like that? ours is doing a get into fitness program where you track working out and it has free services etc. Its a competition for being healthy. It only cost like ten bucks to do.
if you could find something like that it might help motivate you!

ps!! I lost all my weight on my own, no help, no work out buddy, no pills, LOL! It feels great to be able to say “I did it!!!”

Gosh darn I hit a wrong button adn have to do this all over again.  Agh. Anyways

Well I started walking and hubby came too then we lost it.  HE got sick.  Then i got out of the habit. I lost some weight and it came back.   I have a hard time staying away from sweets. I dont’ buy them   usually  but I run into them at lunch or hubby brings them home from the free stuff that comes.  I asked him not to so he would hide it from me.

When I was walking I wouldn’t eat sweets.  I figured I did all that work to get it off I certainly don’t want to put it back on again.

I have to start up again.  There is a neighbor who would love to walk with someone. I dont’ understand why people are so scared to do stuff by theirselves.  They think the boogey man is around every corner.  But i dont’ mind having company while I walk.

Now I have been getting too distracted by the television. It is easier during the week to walk and ignore tv.

good for y’all congrats on the weight you lost. Hurrah.

i used to be so strict in counting calories in my 20’s.  Then when I got on some meds they cause hunger especially for sweets and weight gain.  So I got to get busy.

Having health problems i cna’t work out liek I used to .  OH I was so steady at it too.

but I can still walk short distances not as far as I used to so lets get busy.  No excuses lets go.

I haven’t been as dedicated as I need to be and it’s showing. I’m re-starting on a modified version of the Weight Watchers points program – it’s “modified” because it’s stuff I was able to put together from various sources online. I was on it for a while before getting married and managed to lose a fair bit, then plateaued. Time to try it again!

Well, I’m no smaller, but I think I’m no larger either. *goes off to check the scale* Oop..wait…never mind…

I have never disliked this time of year before, but now I see where from Halloween until past New Year’s I’m going to have a problem with it. I’ve got shin splints too, so walking is definitely no fun anymore.

6 kilos here. It has been a hard and a slow process.

I joined a gym *grimaces* LOL I went with my boyfriends friend a couple of times, as he’s a personal trainer. The times he goes just don’t work for me though. I was going with a friend from work before work but she couldn’t go anymore.

I SUCKED IT UP and managed to go by myself one morning!!! I am shy and have a hard time going to a gym with someone so going by myself was very very hard. But it wasn’t that hard once I got there.

Been busy (Excuses excuses excuses…LOL) So I haven’t made it in over two weeks. I’m really trying to time manage much better so that I can get there at least thee times a week…that being said I’m so lazy and not a morning person so definitely a struggle.

K&K-I understand being shy at the gym, I was at first too. I think the key is to start off going during a not so busy time. Once you get acquainted with the equipment and everything, you will feel like you know what your doing, you have a plan, and you belong there!

BT-Walking is such a great way to lose weight! I didn’t go to the gym all summer but I walked to work everyday (about 3 miles round trip) and thats how I lost most of my weight with the counting calories!

I’ve been going to the Y 3 times a week. I find that going around 10 am (easier for me than most, I know) helps with the shyness cause there aren’t as many people there. I’ve also been doing weight watchers since August and have lost 20 pounds! It’s very exciting…

I started walking again.  Every other day is good for me to keep up with.  The days I didn’t walk I was so busy in the house and running up n down the stairs throwing stuff out or giving it away I figure that was a good work out too.  After the housework my hair was wet with sweat so that was a good workout too.

Tomorrow is a walk day. I got to count calories and keep motivated.  At nites I like my fruit in a blender with soy milk.  Bananas and berries. My stomache feels good after drinking it and I can sleep good.  Unlike with a heavy meat  meal. Though I do eat supper too of course. I just dont’ pile my plate and stop when I am feeling comfortably full not overful.  And maybe a little hungry later for the fruit drink. That makes a good dessert.

We can keep each other motivated like this.
