Anyone regularly feed this to their rabbit(s)?  Any concerns  to watch for?

I don’t know why I haven’t been buying this.  Large, leafy, dark green leaves, high in vit A, cheap to buy or easy to grow and it’s on the BB veggie list!  I haven’t tried this yet so haven’t gained tastebud approval from the bun.  Only thing I’ve read that may be a concern is it is high in sodium.  This is not a bad thing for rabbits is it?

Hey Jerseygirl!  My two don’t care for swiss chard either, they’re nuts about kale instead.   From what I could find for you is that it is lower in calcium than most veggies, which is good and it is on my local HRS bunny-safe veggies list here: http://www.coloradohrs.com/articles/diet_veggies_generic.aspI am not sure why it is not on the list Binky Bunny provided so I’ll send her an e-mail and see if there is something about it that I am not aware of just to be sure.

Oh no! It’s on the list, Swiss Chard and Kale!  Are you refering to silverbeet?  That’s what swiss chard is known as in Australia.

Swiss Chard is on the BB list, I promise! https://binkybunny.com/Default.aspx?tabid=144   I went to double check it because I couldn’t remember if chard was on there or not.    The list was developed by the HRS health director, and I don’t make any changes to it without her sayso, so I was prepared to ask her about this when I saw Swiss Chard was already on there.      I actually haven’t even had my bunnies try Swiss Chard -  might be worth checking out.  They  get alot of variety now, but it never hurts to try.

My buns don’t seem to eat it if I give that too them alone, but they’ll eat most of it if it’s mixed in with other veggies. They always leave the stalks though.

Good to know beecg! I have a little fuss pot but I try give it consistantly, she may come round. I imagine it’s bitter. She manages baby spinach but guess there’s a big difference.  She’s only just now starting to enjoy parsley and coriander (cilantro).  She would leave it before than come have a nibble bit later n.  Now she picks them out during the main Devourment time!
