I am putting a link here to busybunny.com. They sent some gifts earlier in the year over to Bagdad via a soldier for their bunnies they have at the zoo. Sounds so strange. lol Has photos of the buns w/ their gifts as well.

HOpefully they aren’t a boy and girl. I don’t think that they have the proper facilities for spaying.

I know people from the middle east think americans are so bored and rich we take our pets to the vet. Heeheh I was talking with my friends from Egypt. about pets.  Most of my friends from Egypt think we are funny that we have pets and not a bunch of children instead.

One was trying to explain to me why my hubby thinks the way he does.

They didn’t have kitty litter there and just fed the pets table scraps.  No wonder my hubby was so crazy when I had my cat.  He wanted it to eat table scraps and not buy cat food for it or litter. Use sand.

Well he is a lot better with my rabbits now that he knows I love Animals.  I told him well Allah made me this way.  I love them.  So he has accepted pets in the house.   Well rabbits anyway.  He is allergic to cats and if I put Honey Bun on the bed he will start sneezing sometimes.

IN my marriage contract I put that the pets are mine and under my care and you won’t complain when I buy stuff for them.  I had to.  In Islam we make marriage contracts it isn’t like a wedding that you would be familiar with.

We can put whatever we want and agree on in the contract. Like if a woman wants to finish school or work or wants him to pay for her schooling or she doens’t want to work and stay home and raise children.   And we get a dowry too.

Mostly they view animals as food.  Well not cats n dogs.

IN Egypt they do have house cats.  Their are no laws on rabies vacs  and some dogs run loose and dig in the garbage.  People are afraid of them sometimes they bite.  They dont’ have humane societies there.  Or at least they didn’t when my friends lived there.

I believe now there may be kitty litter.  Things like that are starting to catch on there.

Oh if a person is a vet there being a vet is a 2nd job.  People dont’ spay/neuter or give shots to their pets usually.  Some do.  Probably more for food animals than pets.

I do know a vet from Egypt who lives here and his American wife. HE is a full time vet.  So yes there are animal lovers in Egypt.  Pet care is changing there.

I like that the Seargeant is helping educate the zookeepers on rabbits. And he sent those pictures.  I know my hubby’s family had rabbits for food and fed them lettuce and vegies and leftover fruit and stuff like that.  NO wonder they stunk poor things. Upset tummies.

So I have had to take over care of Honey Bunny.  It was a trial he would feed HB too much fruit or something. Phew. HB was his to care for but I took over.  I couldn’t sit back and let him feed HB all that stuff that was not good for him.

I had a book and showed him where it said not good to feed stuff like that cause it would mess up their bacteria in their stomache so he stopped feeding stuff like that.  As far as I know. Anyways.   Unless he feeds it to HB while I am sleeping.  Which is entirely possible.

Yeah when you have cross cultural marriages it has it’s challenges. But he is a dear otherwise and I love him dearly.

Gosh I am rambling.  I am happy to see zoo’s and bunnies in Baghdad. Cool.

Have you ran into hissing roaches yet?  hey are coming in from Afghanistan. in the soldiers luggage and stuff.  that should be interesting

                  Thanks for the link.

Hissing roaches. Oh, that gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

BT- Are you from Egypt? I would LOVE to go there. I’m very much into historic places and that would be #1 on my list to visit. I like learning about other cultures as well. I’ve never traveled outside Canada and US so I like to hear about people in other parts of the world.
