I almost posted this in the Bunny Sounds thread in the Lounge, but it’s more of a legitimate question, rather than a goofy observation, so lemme know whatcha think!

Miss Lizzy Diva Bunny, as you may know, is SHEDDING.  And I have to groom her every morning.  And she HATES it!!!!

My “noise” question is…have any of you noticed the tooth grind/purr in any other circumstance other than, “Oooo, pets…purrr!”, or “I HURT!”.  I’ve never seen either of mine hunched in the corner, gnashing their teeth in pain.  They both tooth purr when getting a particularly satisfying nose rub.  But Miss Lizzy does a similar tooth grind when I brush her, which I’m pretty sure is her least favorite part of the day, judging from the stink-eye, the attempts at escape, and the pinned-back demon-horn ears.  She doesn’t hurt, I know that…

It always happens when she finally gives up on escaping or punishing me, and finally decides to just sit there and take it….  It almost seems like… impatience?  Or annoyance?  Under-breath muttering about how stinky humans are?  Then I offer her a treat and stop brushing and all is forgiven…

The OTHER noise question…yes, there’s two!…is have you ever heard your bun whine/whimper before?

Lizzy did it a couple of times when I was brushing her, and she tried to escape by leaping over my shoulder, and I had to catch her mid-jump.  I don’t think I caught her too hard, but she did what I can only describe as a whine.  I thought I was a very bad bunny-mom, until I took Robbie into the bedroom to harrass my BF (Robbie likes to bite him…I’m awful, but I think it’s funny and use it against him!).  Robbie’s never been in the bedroom before.  Lizzy goes in there occassionally, and thinks it’s great fun, so I thought Robbie would have a grand time…but I put him on the bed, and he did that same whimper like Lizzy had done, thumped the bed really loud, and glared at me.  Needless to say, I quickly returned him to his domain…

But I haven’t heard anybody mention whining before as a bunny-noise…

        Weird…

The whine is between a grunt and a scream. I suppose it is depending upon the level of irritation. Some buns make this noise instead of a grunt. I’ve heard it once.

The tooth purr during grooming is natural, even if buns seem not to want to be groomed. They sometimes give mix signals. Yes, it feels good, but no, I need to be free. Too confusing so I’ll just purr.

Yes, even though Kahluas not happy to be caught and groomed she tooth purs like crazy for it.

Is the whimper like the noise they make when they thump? Alot of buns kind of make a whine when they thump and I take it to be annoyance-maybe that’s what she was making?

Speaking of bunny noises I was cleaning cages tonight at the shelter and our ‘wild’ lionhead instaed of darting around the cage avoiding being picked up growls!! Not the growl I’m going to box you but that real static-y sounding LOUD angry bunny noise…She’s going to need ALOT more handling!!

I know the whine your talking about, Charlie does it to me when I pick him up and love him. He hates being picked up but will tolerate it cause a treat always follows. It’s like a sigh but with noise.

Tooth purring, both bunnies purr when I’m brushing them, even though they claim to hate it. I think it’s what Markusdark said, too confusing…

A big 10-4 on the whine! Fiver does this when he’s distressed. Usually as I am removing my medicine from my daily pill popper and the little doors on it make a clicking noise…he hates that and will thump and make a little whiny noise like a little boy who has just lost his ice cream in the dirt. I never heard a bun do that before him and he’s the only one of my three who does make this noise.

Mimzy tooth purrs and chatters for apparently no good reason. I often hear him doing it even if I am nowhere near him. 0_o

i haven’t noticed Mead purring during grooming. but she purrs so silently, that it’s possible. i can never hear her, only feel the vibration thru her cheek. she will kinda settle down in a bunny puddle, but an annoyed puddle and she’ll sit for as long as i need. Max is the one who keeps turning trying to find a way off the table. he will sit straight up while i groom as if he’s searching for a way to escape.

I’ve heard Digby whine/grunt before, either right before he thumps, or if we’re holding him and he’s not comfortable.

This morning Yoshi was making some unusual sounds – almost like little squeaks. He was hunched over, “picking out” some cecals at the time. I’ve never heard him makes these sounds before, so I don’t know if he was uncomfortable, happy, or what. The weird thing is, he sounded a little like his namesake character from the Mario video games! I wonder if that’s how he originally got his name…

LOL I know the noise your talking about! I’ve heard a few bunnies do it while eating cecals…I don’t know if it’s exertion from reaching, or maybe happy chattering? Or like ‘gross why do I have to do this’ chattering LOL

I’ve never heard that noise, Beecg…I’ll have to listen for it more closely.

I’m so glad everyone else has heard the whine under less than dire circumstances!  I felt like a total heel after Markus related it to a scream!

K&K, be careful of your vicious lionhead!  Sounds like she’s out for blood!

I don’t think Lizzy confused about grooming at all…she bit me on the leg today, little beastie!  And then glared at me with murder in her eyes as she ground her teeth.  I think she’s sharpening them with all that grinding!

I’ve also heard the squeaking cecals noise. I think it’s Mimzy who doe sit most and my guess is, it’s SO hard to reach his widdle head around that GI-normous belly of his that it’s like a ‘man with a beer belly trying to tie his shoes’ noise! xD

Went for a ride after work and stopped down to give attention to my wittle buns…she (wild lionhead lol) didn’t growl…maybe it was just a yesterday thing? She still seems really big on avoiding being picked up-I should really take a vid, I’m a good bun-wrangler, and she is HARD to catch.

                                Oh well no growling!!

I have a lionhead who growls all the time. She gets angry over the thought of being picked up (even though she loves to be held). She bars her teeth, puts her ears back, and charges at you. Of course she never bites so that just makes it easier to catch her. Then she purrs the whole time I’m holding her.

My fuzzy used to cry all the time. The first month I had her, all you had to do is touch her and she would cry. My mom said it sounded like a guinea pig, but I’ve never heard one so I don’t know. She also is shy so she gets scared easily and screams, usually only if pepper, the lion, or a dog is around though.

Yes Cotton does that when I catch him.  A squeak like he is exerting himself and fussing.  Makes me feel bad too.
