So, background-our family dog had to have radiation therapy for a non-operable tumour about two years ago. They do the radiation for one month at a time, and the animal has a treatment every single day. The only place in Canada that does it and one of the only one’s in the world is at the Saskatoon vet college. So my dog went to live there for a month and it was an incredible program, they phone you long distance every single day after their treatment to let you know how they are doing, and they send pictures as well; The animal lives with rotating vet students during it’s stay. (My dog loves teens/young adults so she LOVED sleepovers with the students!)

So needless to say after she did so well in the program and was a favorite with the staff, my parent’s take my dog back to the hospital to visit staff when they are travelling out that way. They were there about two weeks ago.

The current animal having radiation (only one animal at a time gets it) –A RABBIT!!

Why is this so incredible? Well, firstly they have to be put under every day, and secondly to give you an idea of cost, a month on a dog or cat is around fifteen thousand dollars…rabbits cost more as we all know! Even the vets in the hospital thought that it was an incredible amount of money and dedication that the owner was putting into this bunny!!

I know we all *would* pay whatever to save our bunnies-but wow-someone is as we speak!!

wow! that is a lot of money. i’d like to say i’d do anything no matter the cost, but… 15 grand is a lot of money all at once.

          wow.

That’s a lot of love. Unfortunately you need a lot of money for that sort of love…It would take me about a year to save up that kind of money But then again, we don’t have the treatment here in Aus so I would never even have that choice.

I can see where you get your compassion and love of animals K&K, with parents like that it’s no wonder your an animal lover, hugger, saver etc

^^ Actually thier old vet told them there was no such treatment, and my dog kept getting sicker (she was falling down) so they drove her to the Saskatoon vet clinic and asked for another opinion, then they not only got a correct diagnosis but found out yes, in fact there is such thing as radiation for animals!! Saved her life And they got a new vet here at home (my bunny vet ) It’s new but that clinic is always full so I’m sure it will become cheaper and more available

(oasn my whole family is animal crazy)

I’m hoping all the best for that bunny! The owner obviously loves him/her very much to go through all that. The unfortunate thing is that even after spending such a great amount of money, nothing is guaranteed.

I would spend every penny available to me and go without many things to pay for my cat/rabbit/horse vet bills.

O wow! I would totally give all i could to save Hammer if he was ill. But thats a ton of money that would not be available. I glad that someone loves their bun that much and maybe something new will come into vet care through that program!
