Here’s what I did, since I knew the move would take a couple of days (packing, moving, unpacking); Kokanee went to my boyfriends moms house for a week. I of course went over and did the care;

I set her cage up there the exact way it was set up at home, and did not let her see me packing at home; She went over to her house before I started packing and didn’t come to my new place until I was done unpacking (about a week). Then when I brought her home, I set her cage up exactly as it was and let her stay in there for one full day-then let her explore.

I think it made it easier on her because
a) She did not see me packing/unpacking which could have been stressful
b) when she got to my new place everything was unpacked so she could see/smell that it was the same belongings at a new home.

She didn’t seem stressed out at all over it.

If you cannot get a sitter for your bun I’d suggest trying to keep your routine and their routine as normal as possible during the move!!

I think the actual move in the car is more stressful than the new place.

I moved all my rabbits about 3 years ago and once they got into the new place they were perfectly fine – they can be more resilient than you think. I think I was more stressed then they were.

Our bun didn’t do so good.  HE lost Laith a week b4 we moved.  He got extra attention to help him through it.  Then we moved. When we got everything settled I noticed he would pee on the couch.  He got over it in about a month.  Fortunately.   As far as exploring he was just fine with that. Chinned some stuff and settled right in.

We had a few litterbox misses then I put the litterboxes where he made his mistakes and all was fine. It was his way of saying hey I want my litterbox here n here n here.

I had to rearrange a few times til I got it just so in here and i put his cage next to me by the couch. This place is shaped different so I couldn’t set it up just like the other place we left.  And I like change too.

That idea about the bun staying somewhere else til you are settled seems like a great idea.

a long while ago someone on here was talking about moving and they said (i completely forgot who) that they moved the bunny and bunny stuff first and set him up in a quiet room away from the hustle and bustle of moving. this way they could do everything without the bunny underfoot and it was more peaceful for all involved.
