Just wondering how many varieties of veggies your buns get on a daily basis. Mine always get Romaine and Parlsey and sometimes celery leaves. When available, I give them carrot tops too. I’m reluctant to try new veggies because of the whole tummy upset fear.

Wondering on experts opinion: Is it okay to feed mostly the same veggies all the time?

daily they get one herb (either cilantro or flat or curly parsley), one green (either collard, dandelion, or mustard), and two or three lettuces (favs are endive, escarole, romaine, red or green-leaf). i change all of these up every week and htey’ve never had an issue with any of them. watercress is something that i will cycle in and out b/c they both love it. i feel like they get enough variety, and i’m making sure they get some of the vitamin A veggies.

you could try changing out your romaine for another type of lettuce and see how they do with it. i personally feel more comfortable knowing there are a variety of greens they can eat, b/c on more than one occasion i’ve gone and the store is out of a certain green, or they have it and it doesn’t look very fresh… i like having the choice to get something else.

Pepper usually gets two lettuces (always romaine, switch out green and red leaf), one herb (switch between italian flatleaf, italian curly leaf, and cilantro), and sometimes a green if they are especially fresh (carrot tops, mustard greens, or kale) i usually buy 3 types at a time, and then chop them all up and wash, the put a stack of paper towels in the bottom of a grocery bag (to soak up the extra water from washing so they dont rot) and throw the veggies in the bag and put in the fridge. then he gets two cups a day! and he gets 1 one inch square cube of fresh papaya a day (he loves it!)

Lately I’ve been giving mine Romaine and Green leaf lettuce along with a variety of herbs (mint, basil, dill, arugula).

I think it’s fine but I agree with Beka, maybe change up the types of lettuces for a little variety. I change up the herbs for variety – I give a large handful of the various herbs for my rabbits.

if you don’t have one already, i recommend printing out the BB veggie list and sticking it in your purse or wallet for when you go shopping. i like having a cheat sheet… lol.

I think for any animal variety is healthier…makes getting those trace nutrients easier. I can see your fear though!! Try just one new veggie every few weeks and see how they do. If you stick to different lettuces to introduce I’d think they’d do fine. Then like Beka said, if you go there and they are out of something you normally buy you can switch it up

That’s a great idea about the shopping list! I’m gonna do that! Often, I’m at the grocery store and I’ll ponder over a veggie: Can they eat this?

Mike wil roll his eyes at me b/c i’ll find some obscure veggie at the store and then have to whip out my (laminated) veggie list. i never even end up BUYING the weird veggie, i just NEED to KNOW if it’s okay…

Sometimes it’s a question too of will they eat it :~)

Exactly Sarita! You fork out for something more ‘exotic’ only to have them turn up their noses. Then your madly digging about trying to find recipes to use up this bunny food – at least in my case.

Yep, my bunnies are like people who eat meat & 3 veg every day, they like particular lettuce, particular herbs & if you try to give them anything else…their little noses go up in the air and it’s bunny butt time!
Romaine, butter lettuce & rocket are what my lil ones get as well as either mint, corrianda or parsley.
