› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › HELP! TIGERLILY ATE A REMOTE CONTROL BUTTON!
We were all watching a movie and TigerLily got on thr couch and ate the power button off the reciever remote!!!! I tried to pry it out of her mouth bc she was still chewing it but she didnt budge and would not open her mouth! Im so scared! Has this happened to anyone?! Will she be okay?
yes, i’ll bet that most of our remotes are missing buttons. this happens frequently b/c they like the texture i think. she will be okay, but as a general warning, be a little more cautious over the next few days, watch her pooping, but this should not cause a problem.
oh ok, thank you i got so scared! normally she plays with the remotes because she pushes them across the sofa but she has never eaten it!
My parent’s remote is missing the number 9 – well it has a bit left with teeth marks.
BB,
Where is that great thread about what different people’s bunnies have eaten or destroyed?
I think BunnyFooFoo will feel much better after she reads that list.
While remote control buttons are not health food by any stretch mine have eaten many many a remote button (don’t know what the lure is??) Just keep an eye to make sure he’s pooping and I’m sure he’ll be fine…Let me see if I can find my pictures I took of our remote’s ![]()
Hmm, that thread was posted by K&K in the lounge, let me see if I can’t dig it up. ![]()
Here is the one I was thinking of, is this it Beka?

Cool K & K because the photos are no longer viewable in the discussion above.
Here’s what my remotes look like (Dave’s learned not to leave them on the ground
)

lol, thank you everyone for your support, i really was freaking out over here! She is very good about chewing normally she does not get at anything but her toys so It really did not occur to me to move the remotes as we all sat on the sofa. I will keep a close eye on her but so far she is acting normal eating her hay and playing with her willow toys. Thank you all soo so much!

You’re welcome! ![]()
We keep all of our remotes turned face down to try and avoid loosing buttons. However…with 4 buns you can imagine they seem to love chewing them off. We have a DirecTV remote that is now missing like 12 buttons. They never take the entire thing off but seem to just kinda shave thru the button.
We do our best to keep them away from the buns but they are sneeky little devils. We haven’t ever had any tummy problems either from them. ![]()
binkybunny bunnies are remote button fiends lol
The button to change the channel took a beating from Luey … now I have to use something to poke it with if I wish to change channels ![]()
“power”
“9”
“enter”
“channel”
that’s what’s gone or partially gone on mine. they always get that power button first…
I freaked when one of my bunnies ate his first button too. My tv remote has about 4 or 5 buttons that are not chewed off. I have to use a pen to push the little buttons!
I knew from the various threads here on BinkyBunny that remote buttons are irrestible to bunnies- so I have been extra careful with the remotes. Cotton did take 1 tiny, tiny nibble on 1 button on the cable remote and my husband was so aghast it was kinda funny actually. It was only the little nibble about the pize of a pencil tip of the side of the “previous” button, did not remove any of the button markings, etc.
I think his blood pressure would elevate just from seeing the photos of everyone elses remote!
And we do not even use the cable remote anymore since we got Tivo. I should set up a camera and show him the remote pictures on this thread and record his reaction- but then we would be mad at me for recording him and be having sympathy anger for all the other guys/gals out there married to bunny addicts too. ![]()
Haha, yeah, same with one of my buns. He’s had his fair share of remote control buttons >.>
Maybe buns should come with one of those universal remotes. Not for a chew toy, just to replace your original remote down the track.
Heh…I think the power buttons are the most common targets because they want you to turn the t.v. off and pay attention to them! ^_^
Luckily my bunnies cannot reach the remotes in this house. I cannot imagine what the hubby would think if he suddenly couldn’t channel surf! It would be necessary to pack me and the bunnies up and move quickly to an undisclosed location! 0_o
Benny too has a fetish for remote control buttons. All of my remotes have had most if not their buttons chewed off.
The one exception is my newest remote which came with my dvd recorder/player. This is mostly because i have had it wrapped in freezer bags.
^that is actually a great idea! can you still operate it thru the bag then?
Cotton had never chewed the remote in the whole year I had him Til that doggone post came out that has just been dug out of the archives of bb.
Cotton must have been looking over my shoulder while I was reviewing that post. Dang he got 1 whole remote and 1 button off the new remote. So I put it in a plastic ziploc bag and no more chewing.
I am known here as the bag lady. The remote gets chewed it gets a bag over it. The couch gets peed on ithe cushions get put in a garbage bag
Solved the problem well… as long as Cotton isn’t peeking over my shoulder right now. ![]()
Haha, I love that BunnyFooFoo is freaking out and we are all like “Eh, she just a remote control button? No big deal…”
Catray-I’ve heard of that before-It sounds like such a good idea!!! Someone before mentioned keeping your remotes in ziplock bags because you can still use them and then the buns won’t be tempted by the deliscious spheres of rubber-buttony-goodness
One bun site actually sells a fake remote made of wood w/ colored buttons to give your buns in exchange for your real remotes. But I think I heard that they will taste one button and they realize it isn’t “real” and then will go back to the real remotes. lol
So smart its scarey!
Yes, Jack likes to chew on the buttons – i think it’s male thing – a power struggle for the remote in our house.
I told my parent’s about this thread, while Dad was holding the remote, and he said he actually wants to thank Spockie for chewing the 9 button. Seems he gets up in the middle of the night to snooze on the couch in front of the TV with the sound muted. Instead of turning on a light, he feels for it in the dark, then can find all the buttons by using the 9 that feels lumpy to orient his hand for the rest. Such a nice bunny – so thoughtful to help his grandfather.
With our old dvd player you couldn’t watch a movie without keeping a pen nearby to poke what was left of the buttons on the remote. If it hadn’t had the words printed right on the remote instead of on the buttons I have no idea how we would have known which buttons to push!

Rabbitpam Hahaha! Funny.
Hehehe They *ARE NOT* eating the buttons, they are simply coding them with braille!!
Pam that is a cute story!
every remote I own is missing almost all the buttons. Little punks!
Same goes for the buttons on my kids’ calculators!
this post makes me smile! layla used to looooooove eating the remote control. i think it was an artistic expression! ;P
binky free layla
Layla, I know this is OT from this discussion, but it is good to see you back and I am sorry for your loss.
I have been very lucky in that my two have not had the pleasure of chewing the buttons off of the remote controls.
Thank you – it’s good to be back…i missed this! ![]()
