First of all sorry for asking more questions than I answer….

Well I was wanting to get a new litter box for Fern, because she grew out of her old one and I was wonering which kind is the best.

I was looking at one like this:

        http://www.hopperhome.com/LockonLitterbox.jpg

        Or this:

        Marshall High Back Litter Pan

Because I wanted a lowish front so Fern (a small rabbit, about 3-4 pounds) could get in it easily,

But I was unsure if Fern would be able to pee over the low front.

So I also looked at this one

        http://blog.allcreaturesrescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/cat_litterpan.jpg

I was not sure if she would find it annoying to jump in each time, (she is a spoiled bunny! She should never “work” to get in her litter box)

What do you have? and does it work well?

Also which of the three suggestions I thought of would you reccomend?

i have two of the last one (medium size cat box). i did the corner one but once i got a second bun, it was just not practical space-wise. i like the higher sides because it keep the litter and hay in. also, you can do a big pile of hay at one side, litter at the other side and not have to mix the hay up too much.

LOL Moonlight Wolf! bunnies can jump, ya know… that’s what they do. i’ve found that the smaller buns can actually jump higher than the bigger buns b/c they’re lighter in weight…

(i’m just kidding around with you by the way… ;o)

but seriously, she should not have a problem getting in the box.  sometimes older buns will need a lower front, or rabbits with disabilities, but as a healthy, young adult bun, she should be fine.  it’s also nice b/c (at least in my area) the cat boxes are less than half the price as the fancy critter boxes.

I had the corner one too.  Then Cotton quit using it.  Then I noticed one of them would pee off the side of it. Probably Cotton.  Then I tried that litterbox 2nd pic that you put.  They both use it and no more urinating on the cage floor.

Cotton likes to lie in the litterbox too.  Is roomy and solved the problem.

Awe, don’t worry about asking more questions than you answer, that’s what we’re here for, for goodness sake so ask away!

I have two litterpans just like your last picture. My concern about the corner ones or the ones that attach to the side of the cage is that they are often not deep/long enough for a bunny to sit in comfortably and do their business. Often times, if the litterbox is too small and they have to scrunch up in it or place their paws on the ledge or outside, they will begin pooping and peeing outside of the box because it is not comforatble for them to sit in (a kind of rebellion). Plus keep in mind that some bunnies overshoot the sides of the pan and the pee will hit a walll or urine guard instead.  Also, I have not personally used one, but I hear that a covered cat litterbox works well too.

I would love one that can be easily secured in place (and is easy to take out for cleaning), but size and high sides are more important, in my opinion.

The litter box I’m using looks like the first one, only it doesn’t secure to the cage. I liked it when I just had one bunny – I’d turn it to face the wall (so she actually had to jump over the highback to get in – and she’s only 4-5lbs and it really wasn’t a problem for her) and then put her hay rack, food dish, and water in front of the low edge and against the wall of the cage – which forced her to (1) face the correct direction and avoid over the edge spills, and (2) always be in the box to eat and drink which improved her litter box skills dramatically. But now with 2 bunnies, that one isn’t quite wide enough. They do both get in at the same time, but it’s a bit squishy and not very comfy looking – so I’ll be upgrading to a cat litter box style one that’s a bit longer so they can both get in.

Thank you guys! Based on your input, I got the third one. I just got it and I am going to see how it works out for Fern!
                    Thank you everyone.

Third one looks most practical and cheapest. More stable too when not up against a corner. You can also put it in other areas of the house when you need to. If you find Fern has trouble getting in and out, you can cut the front half down to look like the other boxes.
