I got some mini pumpkins at the store today.  Theese are safe for rabbits to eat right?  What do I do just give it to them whole or do I cut it up?  Is the peel ok?  The stem?  LOL I’m confused.

Tuckerbunz, I usually give mine the canned pumpkin and cooking or baking it brings out the sweetness but from my understanding raw pumpkin is O.K. (like any squash) but be sure to peel it and not offer any seeds or stringy innards that can get stuck in their teeth. Try a small piece and see if your rabbit likes it and wait a day to see if there is any intolerance for it like a malformed stool, gas or diarrhea.

I’m interested to know if the peel is ok too? Pumpkin is definitely safe, but I wouldn’t feed the seeds or stem as Scarlet said.

Scarlet, so peel is not ok? Just the meat?

I would stay away from the skin as that is what is exposed to the elements and drift from any pesticides or herbicides.

Thanks! That’s cute K&K, you have him wrapped around your finger but don’t let him know I said that.

My bunnies would not eat their pumpkin pieces.

And I just realized I am getting too old for pumpkin carving. *nurses aching fingers, hands and wrists* I stood at the kitchen counter for about three horus carving ours. (ouch)

My bunnies hate pumpkin, they thinks it’s the devil. They’re really not adventurous bunnies when it comes to food.

Mine LOVED it – with the exception of Yuuki (who’s a prince and turned his nose at it) but 9/10 rabbits gave it a thumbs up!

9/10 rabbits agree – pumpkin is for them!

The babies went NUTS over it. Absolutely nuts.

Coco liked to lick the scraping spoon – and took some nibbles from a bit of the flesh..but soon gave it all the bunny butt.
