My nine month lionhead has a bald spot on her tummy/side.  At first glance I thought it was from her spay over  amonth ago, then I realized no way did her hair not grow back… the spay area has grown in almost all the way, but there’s  good two inch long patch… The skin looks 100% fine.  Any ideas?  She seems healthy and happy.  She also has a small bald spot on the back of her head at the base of her ears, but she’s had this as long as I’ve had her and the vet never mentioned it during her check up.

is she shedding? could it be it came out in a clump, or has the bald spot been there the whole time? i don’t have any experience with lionheads personally, but i know they go thru big sheds where they lose the “baby fur”.

My bunny Cotton that was spayed on May doesn’t quite have 100% of her hair back on her tunny from the spay shave.  The incision site immediately grew hair back- it seemed the body recognized this as “trauma” and healed the skin incision and re-grew the hair.  The other hair did not grow in at the same time.

I just got a new bunny last week that was spayed in July- and her tummy is the same way- she has some strips where the long hair has not grown back in- just some fuzzy, short close to skin hair.

My rabbits are a Mini Lop and Holland Lop- but it seems to me as though if a bunny’s system does not recognize wound or trauma to an area the hair is slower to grow back- so the sterile prep area remains “bare” longer than the incision that the body took care of.

she may be molting and even then, my bunny has a few blad spots so it’s nothing to worry about. If you are really concerned you can talk to you vet about it but it is really nothing to worry about.

Stormy has a big bald spot on his back right now. He’s shedding. I’ve experienced bald spots during shedding with my lop too. As long as it doesn’t look like a wound and your sure it’s not due to fleas/mites, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Lionheads do get this little bald patch just behind their ears (usually) so no biggie there.

Definitley I’d wonder if she’s shedding they can get bald spots during heavy molts. If the skin isn’t irritated I’d just keep an eye on it!
