Hi everyone
Little Man found some streamers left over from a party the other day and just LOVED them. I was wondering if I bought some without color (white) if it would be ok to buy some for himn to play with/eat. Also, it seems he LOVES marshmallows as well.
Whaddya guys think? Are these ok?
i’m not sure about the crepe paper… it might be okay to play with, but i wouldn’t let him eat any big quantities…
Marshmallows are a definite no-no. i believe they’re almost pure sugar, right? that could wreak havoc on their bunny digestive system. a better treat would be sprigs of healthy herbs, a couple raisins, or a couple matchstick carrots 3x a week.
have we seen pics of Little Man yet? that’s such a cute name!
Im thinking the marshmallows are not safe. Way high in sugar and so sticky id me afraid they would get stuck in his throat, aside from a sugar overload. Although i think the streamers could be fun! I hope they are safe because i wanna go buy them now!
What are the streamers made out of? paper? I’d think they’d be ok to play with..but not really eat. Chewing and not eating is different though. But eating them could lead to a blockage.
Marshmallows I’d say are a big no no. They’re like pure sugar and that’s not good for rabbits. I’d stick to tiny pieces of fresh fruit as treats and veggies.
the crepe paper are party streamers, the ones that come in every color and it’s almost like a crinkly tissue paper consistency…
O rats! you guys are thinking the streamers are not such a good idea.. im scratching them off my shopping list i guess. I wrote them down and was all happy an anxious to go get some lol. Hammer has me bunny whipped! He would tell me to binky and id ask how high and where to?!
You know what I wanted to get? That crinky stuff that you can pack with presents.
I think the streamers are ok if the rabbit’s not EATING it.
Ok… well, I guess the marshmallows are out. He really does go nuts for them though.
Jury is still out on the crepe(haha! I’m so dumb!) paper…. He mostly just runs around dragging it and tripping over it. It’s really pretty cute. He does seem to like to eat it too though.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the white was dyed/bleached, as well. Most paper products don’t start out white, until treated somehow.
Newspaper’s ok, though, because the ink is vegetable-based. Have you checked out the Toy Forum? There’s this great “Jellyfish” idea a member came up with that involves strips of newspaper. Your bun might love that!
Thanks Beka27… I love his name. You’ll never believe the story that inspired it.
I did put a pic up when he had the cone over his head after his surgery, but I can’t figure out how to put one under my log in thingy to the left.
I’d love to hear the story of how Little Man got his name!
me too!
if you go to the neon green bar right about the forum, on the right hand side it says: MY PROFILE
this opens up your profile page. at the bottom, it says: EDIT PROFILE/ PREFERENCES, click on that.
on this screen you can add in your info: hobbies, location, occupation, etc. as well as info about your bunny (birth/adoption date, sex, neutered/spayed). this is actually very helpful to other members so we can see the bunny’s stats and that can help when we offer advice.
at the bottom of this screen, you’ll see a spot for avatar and there is an upload box. press browse, insert the picture and upload. i have found that it might take a few tries, but it should eventually show up.
Thanks Beka now I just need to charge my camera.
The story of how Little Man came to be:
I got Precious from a craigslist add. They told me they had her for a couple years and that she was a great bunny but that they didn’t have time for her anymore. So I happily took my 2yr old female rabbit home to my apartment. We were getting along great….
One day, a few weeks later I had just walked in the door and open her cage on my way to the potty. I had been excluding her from my bedroom and letting her have free run of the rest of the apt. As I was washing my hands, I saw her dart into the bedroom in the bathroom mirror. I continued to watch while I finished washing and drying my hands. By now, she had found something very new to play with. I had a mini-beach ball on my bed that she had knocked off and was happily chasing around in circles on the floor. She was so cute playing with the ball that I just had to let her keep doing it a few more minutes. Well…..
I’ll spare the details, but after that it was apparant that my bunny was a boy bunny and that he was in love with my beach ball. My reaction is where he got his name… in shock, I shouted ” You little man with a little penis!” My boyfriend was hysterical!!! Ever since then, he has been my Little Man.
A few weeks later his boy parts looked like boy parts and we went to the vet… she told me he was MUCH younger than 2yrs and that’s why he still looked like a girl bunny down there. I had him neutered a few months later.
weird. how could they say that they had her for 2 YEARS when they clearly had not…? strange. a very funny story tho!
Ha, ha, ha, I can just picture a little bunny running around dragging streamers behind him.
You could look for non-bleached or recycled crepe paper or you could make your own. Try cutting some kraft paper, news paper or a grocery bag into strips. I have some rings I made of construction paper that interconnect with each other that my buns play with. I used Elmer’s glue – it is actually edible – to connect strips of the paper through each other – I have some hanging from their pen.
Little Man is one of Winston’s nicknames!
This isn’t an insult towards the original poster, but coming to this forum and seeing the various titles of threads always makes me smile
“What about Sweet Potatoes?”
“Crate Paper and Marshmellows”
etc…
Wait Elmer’s glue is edible??? Are you sure? Cool! I should use it more often.
Yes, white color usually either bleached OR dyed. As non-bleached or colored paper is usually a light beige.
FUNNY STORY about little man. Poor Little man, hope he doesn’t have a complex now. ![]()
