Well, in response to the bunny demands of the house I have redesigned their divided condo.  As much as I loved the old one..they did not.  So…here is their NEW and IMPROVED (by their standards anyway) bunny condo!

The whole thing..not quite all moved in but almost there!  The right side is Tucker’s and the left is Drue’s…although they’ll be switching back and forth so really I guess it’s not really hers or his..

Right side only, yes I know the water bottle is empty..it’s not used anymore..I just need to take it down.

Left side only.  I had to cut the rug to get it to fit   I was sad but it had to be done.

Drue checks out the new crib.

With the new set up I have all hay, food and water on the lower level.  Will this end up being ok?  I mean is it feasable for them to go down below every time they need to eat/drink/poop/pee?  I’m hoping that the lower level will then get the brunt of Tucker’s poops since she’s not fully litter trained…hoping hoping hoping…

Well so far they both seem to really like it.  I have Tucker’s pen attached so she gets some out time, during the day she’ll normally have more of a pen but I have to buy another set of binder clips so for tonight it’s not AS large.  She’s been spending most of her night exploring anyway and I just finished the condo about 8pm and bedtime is 10ish tonight anyway.

that looks awesome. i actually like it more than the first… i am a big fan of symmetry… lol! i like how “Drue” has 3 wide on top and “Tucker” has 3 wide on the bottom… it fits together so well… but they still have equal space… would you let BB put it in the cool habitats section if she wanted to? i think that’s a perfect example of a “bonding in progress” NIC cage…

i wonder if they’re gonna spend a lot of time on top looking at each other…?

Thanks It’s growing on me more too.  I think it gives them both alot more actually play space as they love to climb and jump.  And it gives us back more of the living room too without taking anything away from them.

I’d love for it to be in the cool habitats gallery if BB would like it there

They have been staying on the same level as each other a lot I noticed.  I put them to “bed” early last night because I wanted to watch them interacting together in there.  It was funny when one would move to a new level the other one would become alert and follow the other one up there.  I tried to have most of the “levels” meet.  So that it was more likely that they’d see each other.  The top level the walls are completely together.  I made that one a solid big floor for Drue because he doesn’t go on the thin levels much and I made it a thin level for Tucker because she LIKES the thin one.  So far though they’ve both decided the center level well..third level is their lounge space.  So while they’re not RIGHT next to each other they are still on the same level and can see each other really well.  Where as before..in the old set up they barely ever saw each other when they were in their condo/pen.  I think this set up is going to bring a lot more interaction for the two of them.   I’m really seeing a lot more interaction between the two of them in general lately.  I can’t wait to get Tucker spayed so that we CAN actually start introducing them.  We had one almost oops the other day.  They were sniffing each other through the bars of the pen and the binder clip came loose and so they were actually near each other.  Drue backed up because of the pop sound that the clip made and then they just looked at each other.  We ran over right then to clip it back up but luckily neither of them like lunged at each other or anything.  The only one who has been any kind of aggressive has been Tucker, she growls at Drue sometimes when they’re sniffing but it’s only sometimes and she’s got hormone issues going on right now so I think she’ll be ok once that’s all dealt with.  And luckily Drue doesn’t return any aggression, he just takes the hint and stops sniffing.  He doesn’t run away he just takes a step back and sits down.  (Maybe she’s just started her wifely training a little early LOL)

I’ll have to post another picture later lol..Drue found a design flaw that I had in this one.  On the top level as in the pictures there is a two grid drop.  I didn’t realize that when putting it together.  I was sitting on the couch though last night watching them and I would see Drue look down and then always go over to the back before jumping.  So, I knew something had to be wrong there.  I went over and noticed how far of a drop it was!  So, I had one spare grid left (gee I wonder why..dur…LOL, I had planned the whole thing out on paper and just never realized how I had an extra grid lol) and so I attached that one to the top in that area where the drop was and so now he has 5 grids on the top level and the only way to get down has a grid right below it to prevent any injuries due to a fall.  Because while Drue is cautious and wouldn’t make that leap…Tucker would take a flying leap not even thinking about the outcome.

That’s so cool, TuckerBunz! (I was actually wondering about that drop, myself! Glad Drue caught it for you!)

I think Robbie would LOVE something like that…unfortunately, I have no room for it. And Lizzy’s a horrible jumper, and would break herself instantly.

I can’t wait to see how your Diva’s bonding goes! When does she get spayed?

Yea l can’t believe I didn’t catch it! I’m glad he did as soon as he did!

She should be getting spayed the weekend of the 7th..as long as everything goes well.  I’m doing some OT so that we can afford it.  I MIGHT end up waiting until the paycheck after that one just to be safe..or calling like the Wed before the 7th once I can see what my check will end up being   I don’t want to schedule it and then end up not having enough and having to cancel it.  But, we’re aiming for the 7th   So that’d be awesome and MAYBE just maybe they’ll be bonded by Christmas.  That’d be nice huh?  Doubtful lol but nice

It could happen! They’re getting used to each other now, and sound mostly friendly towards each other…and you’re not letting them have the change to get too territorial…

I’ll think happy thoughts for them and you!

Yea I am really hoping for an easy bonding.  Heck..if I could let them have even PLAYTIME together for I’d be so happy.  I’m really hoping that the only thing causing her to growl every now and then right now is her hormones.  She has a tendency to do that right now when anything doesn’t go her way.  I need her to move so I can clean…grrr grr grr.  I need her to go in the condo and she doesn’t want to yet…grr grrr grrr.  I need her to move over three inches so I can put her food bowl down…grr grr grr.  Ugh.  And that’s the same thing that happens when Drue is sniffing the bars a bit too much…grr grr grr.  The fact that it’s not just him that she does this around makes me hopeful though LOL.  AND he’s so laid back he doesn’t seem to mind lol. He just looks at her like “why you do that?” and lays down.

I love your design and I am considering doing something like that for my buns….when I get them more used to each other/ further along the bonding stage.  That is the awesome thing about NIC cubes- you can make whatever you want.  And you were so fair about dividing up the space….that is a sign of a dedicated bunny slave.

KC:   If you can find any of the mesh grids you probably wouldn’t even have to wait for them to be further along in bonding.  Mine aren’t bonded at all yet but because the middle wall is all mesh grids they can’t fight at all.    I’m really liking it because it kind of forces them to be near each other but still no worry of fighting They’ve beend doing really well too.

Beka I have a question for you   Today it was Drue’s turn to have the condo closest to the outside.  It’s been working really well because he has a chance to go in and out of it as he wants without taking any pen space away from Tucker.    Tomorrow though when it’d be his turn to have the condo in the back it’ll actually take ALOT of pen space away from Tucker just because I’d have to use only the grids and not the back wall.  Anyway, I was wondering if you thought it’d hinder their..process of not being territorial by Drue always having the front condo during the day.  We’d keep switching at night.  But then..I guess he’d have the front condo way more often and might get territorial over it.  Maybe I’ll have to figure something else out LOL

i don’t know if i understand what you’re saying… isn’t Drue having runtime elsewhere in the house (with the dogs?) you could just close his pen door and open up the room to Tucker.

Tucker only gets her penned in area of the room.  It’s a big penned in area..but still, it’s penned because she’s destructive otherwise.  She also gets time in the kitchen.  Drue is free range now except for bed time but he likes to have a condo to go hang out in.  I THINK that might have been what the poops were from.  On the two nights he pooped all over he had no access during the day to a condo.  Then yesterday he had access all evening and this morning there was very little out of box poops.  Today I started Tucker’s pen a little closer in so that Drue still had access to his pen.  He’s been napping in it and going in and out all day.  I think that’s what his issue was..no pen to go to to hang out.  So, I wanted to keep leaving one pen door open and accessible only to him during the day.  I was also thinking of maybe just making him a “home base” somewhere, maybe in the kitchen so that he had like a little set up where he’d feel more at ease at..  Or maybe I could just open his up to him in the evenings so that he had a few hours of going in or out before bed to get used to the new area before he’s locked up into it.

I really might be thinking too much.  Maybe he just needs to get over it and he’ll get used to things and stop pooping lol.

you are thinking too much… ;o)

but seriously… i would not worry about her having more restricted run-space right now. she still has room to stretch her legs, she still is allowed to play in the kitchen, she has a MUCH BETTER life than many buns who are stuck in hutches or too-small petstore cages 24/7. remember, this time period is temporary. do what you need to for now and after the spay you can re-evaluate where she is behavior-wise. plus, you’ll be bonding shortly after, so that will occupy her mind also.

That is a fantastic condo!!! WOW!

Be careful of making a ‘home base’ we now have four in our apartment on top of their condo in their room!! LOL But a home base is a good idea, put a litter box with water and food and couple things to chew on…bet Drue will be tickeled to have more stuff (they always are LOL)

Here’s the condo after I added their new carpet (I cut it too small ) and fixed Drue’s shelf.

Tucker hanging out in the left condo.

Drue doing a little grooming on this side.

“what are you doing with that camera again lady??”

”ooh you gonna give me pets?? well that’s different!”

You think she’s comfy in her new home?  LOL
