So I bought Kit a new cage last night. Very similar to this one, its the biggest one they had =) http://www.zooplus.com/bilder/rabbit/cage/1/5307_ferplast_kaninchenkaef_1.jpg

Kit seems to really like it, he was running in circles in his cage, sniffing out all of his new things. Of course, I couldn’t leave the petstore without getting them both some new toys. The best part about the cage is the SOLID bottom! No more peeing on the floor! YAY. I’m estatic. It was so nice to not wake up and go in the kitchen to smell stale urine that has been sitting out all night! I bought him a full size cat litter box, and he kept pretty much every little poop, and all of his pee in it! I know its just the first night, but I wish I would have done this sooner. (He is also in the living room so he gets more attention and interaction, even when its not his evening playtime).

He is really an odd little bunny as he’s growing up. He’s still pretty terrified of being held, but always sticks his nose out for a rub when you open his cage door. I just can’t figure out how to make him more comfortable. I’ve never held him for long periods of time, but there ARE times when I have to lift him out of his cage to clean it, or trim his nails. I guess I need to just accept the fact that he’s not going to jump into my lap like Honey does just yet. I still haven’t earned all of his trust i guess.

Honey is doing wonderful! She’s back to her old self hoping about the house Because of her excellent litter habbits, she is out pretty much the whole time I am home in the evenings(from about 4-10). She’s a little less cuddlier after the spay, she will only take so much petting and then shes off on another adventure. She is also a little easier to spook? Anyone else notice this? It will be 2 weeks since the spay on Friday.

She isn’t any more tolerable of Kit, either. Can she sense his growing hormones? He hasn’t displayed any mating behaviors around her thus far. Their interactions consist of her shoving her head under his head, and then him shoving his under hers. Its like a constant headbutting contest. And neither will give in.

Hopefully I will have some picture time soon!

i’m glad the cage is working out for you! how’s he littertrained outside of the cage? things will hopefully improve once he is neutered…

it’s possible that she’s sensing the hormones… so you are letting them out together now? it sounds like things are going great betw/ them, there’s no fighting at all? when they lower their head under the other, that is a request for grooming…

Wow that’s great!! And litter trained in one night! Awesome!

I’ve been getting loads of experience between my shelter and the other one I volunteer at with bunnies who are scared of being held. We have a bunny who hasn’t been held in six years (three years in a petstore, three years with a family who just let him hop out of the cage on his own).

He becomes very comfortable holding him in my lap on the floor, with his face tucked in my arm. Thats a great position for a nervous bunny. The other one is on my chest, bum in my lap, face upwards on my chest-one arm underneath, one doing nose rubs. Those two positions allow for tons of support, sitting on the ground where they are more comfortable and allows them to close their eyes for nose rubs. Try both and see what he prefers, and try holding him for a little bit every day…

The rabbit I just mentioned flailed so bad the first time I put him back in his cage my arms looked like I was attacked by some crazy animal (guess I was ) . He now patiently allows himself to be picked up, held and put down with no flailing

Wow, sounds like they are doing great.

My buns shove their noses under one another all the time – I call them “nose wars”.

                Groom me.
                Groom me!
                No, you groom me.

What a great looking cage! We really need to upgrade. I want to do something w/ levels since our floor space is limited. How big is that cage?

That almost looks like the Superpet cages I have for Mim & Pip except that the whole front end doesn’t come up like that. And yes, you’ll find that plastic bottom to be a major blessing when it comes to cleanup time. I use a Swiffer first, to pick up any hay or droppings, then a vinegar/water solution on a paper towel and then I clear out the vinegar smell with a little water and BING! Done! Mimzy will now move for me at the appropriate times as I go by him with the paper towel so I can clean where he’s sitting. I haven’t been nipped in weeks. ^_^
I used to put Carefresh bedding there, but Mimzy seems to prefer just the floor. I think it cools him off somewhat and our house is hot and dry almost year round, so it’s actually much nicer not to have to pick that stuff up too.

It’s a bear to have to lug to the shower for a full cleaning though. I do that once a week while Mimzy is exercising. I can take it apart and clean one half at a time, but OY.
