I got an email today from the vet clinic where I work (day off today)- that there is someone looking to rehome their 1 1/2 year old spayed female lop bunny and they wanted to make sure she stayed in an indoor home.

I know that female to female are the hardest to bond- but I thought I would give it a shot.  Dora is such a cutie and the owner is more than willing to let me have her on a trial basis to see if I can get them bonded.  It does not sound that like Dora is as dominant as Cotton- which should be a good thing and is used to other pets (which is a good thing too).

I am going to have to read more about bonding as everything I have read didn’t relate to my situation at the time.

        Isn’t she cute??

Awwwww how adorable! I have heard that it is difficult to do same sex bondings, so be mentally prepared for a longer bonding process. Have you thought at all about what you would do if they didn’t bond? I don’t want to be a downer but its a good idea to think out that route too just so you don’t end up in a difficult situation. To be honest, when I went from one bunny to two bunnies (even in separate cages) I didn’t find that it was that much more work.

I do know there is a chance that they will not bond- and fortunately the person that is looking to rehome her is not moving or unable to keep her any longer- they just want to find a home for her where she will have a bunny friend and get more attention.   She is willing to take her back if they can not get along after trying bonding.  But I have to admit I have never gotten a pet and then gotten rid of it…so that might be a problem.  Even if Cotton is not attached- I will be.  I know it would have been ideal to let Cotton “date”- but this bunny happened along and I think she is cute and the fact that she is not a baby (1 1/2 years old) and is already spayed is a huge bonus to me.  Cotton was cute as a youngster- but I would prefer not to go thru pre-spay/neuter hormonal behavior again.

The person looking to rehome already found a home for her once- then she found out the lady stopped feeding her and would not give her hay- so she took her back. (That is so sad!)  I felt something when I looked at her photo- and had a gut feeling to call- so hopefully things will work out between them eventually.   Ironically enough- Dora was obtained the same way Cotton was- from the same local pet store- saw one look at the cute face- found out it was a girl- and it was a done deal.  That is what happened to me too- so maybe she wasn’t meant to be their house bunny- but hopefully she is meant to be mine.

She is dropping her off to me tomorrow at the vet clinic where I work- she kinda knows who I am thru the clinic I work at and the Australian Shepherd Rescue I work with.  Dora’s personality sounds typical bunny- does not like to be picked up, but will snuggle, etc.

              Wish me luck everyone!

              Julie

                CONGRATS!! Good luck!!!

You know we can all help you with suggestions while you try to bond so I’m sure you can do it! And not only did my two females bond in an instant, at the time of intros, they were both unspayed! So it can definitely be done!

Congratulations! I hope it goes well! She’s very cute!

(I don’t find two bunnies much more work, but it is different…Lizzy definitely isn’t only MY bunny anymore…now I have to share with my great grey clod-of-a-Robbie! He’s too busy licking pillows to belong primarily to EITHER of us, btw! He’s his own bun…sort of…in a weird obsessive pillow-licking sort of way…off-topic, moving on!)

Have a great day with your new bun!

i’ll bet they bond. it might take a lot of work, but you need to be confident that it will work…

Keeping my fingers crossed that bonding will work!
Yes, I know what you mean when you said you have never taken in an animal and then rehomed it. Maybe it helps in this situation to thing that she already has a home, her current human is simply trying to find her a home with another bunny so she can have more company. If bonding doesn’t work, then she would still live a lonely life though she would be an indoor rabbit in your house. Maybe always remember that company of their own kind is very important to rabbits and if bonding with your bunny girl doesn’t work, maybe someone else has a lovely rabbitman who needs a companion…

Anyway, I’m crossing my fingers that your girl like the newcomer! She is SUPER CUTE!!! Keep us posted!!!

I started a thread in the bonding section- even though it is only Day One and the cages are 3 feet apart to start.

“Dora” is so darn cute- and she is smaller than Cotton- at 3 1/4 lbs.  She seems to have a mellower personality- she was very cooperative during the vet exam (I work at a vet clinic so I had the vet that was there do an exam before I brought her home just to make sure she looked 100% healthy).  She passed the exam with flying colors.

I would like to re-name her!  Any suggestions??  I don’t have kids- and have never been a big, Dora the Explorerer fan.  So I am looking for some possible names for her.  I don’t think she knows her name as Dora- and I can’t think of anything close to Dora that I like.  I will attach another pic of her- but she is a light chocolately brown with a darker face.

Um. . . you could always call her Sailor.

                            That first photo is adorable.
She looks cozy in her box.
