          i have this article… http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/ClientED/cat_fluids.aspx

it says the most common used is: Lactated Ringers Solution (LRS).

the article is for cats, so i don’t know if that is something specific to cats, or if saline can be used. i have no experience with this.

          what’s wrong?

There are different forms of saline- you would need the saline specifically for IV/SQ use.  Saline bottles (as in eye wash) would not be suitable for SQ use.

IV saline is sterile solution of sodium chloride.  Is this what you are referring to by med grade sterial water?

Can you get IV sloution through the horse rescue?

Can you email Dana Krempels?  You could probably even call her. I wonder what happened to the woman vet that joined here awhile ago…

Thanks everyone…my original post was Andre, and the other two were Dave-all posting for me. I was at the rescue and we don’t have internet there. (forty five minuete from home as well..)

The sweetie passed away while we were on route to the emergency vets. They told us they didn’t know what to do, so I was trying to get all the info (me on phone to Dave and Andre getting them on the forum to ask) so we could tell the vets what to do (they don’t treat rabbits.).

I’m just stunned I know it can happen fast, but he was bouncing around yesterday and now he’s gone. This is the hardest part of rescue, there so many good things but this is heartbreaking.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

I’m so so sorry about the little bun.  Yes that is the very tough part about rescue.  You did the best you could. Take care.

Sorry to hear of this K&K. Glad the bun was with you thou. Was he a surrender or rescue? I’m thinking he could have had a prolonged battle with health before he was in your care at the rescue.

We found him at auction, he was with two others, one who’s had major absess surgery for what looks like an attack by a dog. We’ve no idea of his history. Yes, I tried to walk them through what to type and neither of them actually wrote that they weren’t me and were posting for me-or that it was one of our shelter buns. Thanks again everyone for the help and kind words.

Might be a good idea to get a few bag of sub-q fluids to keep on hand.

As for motility drugs the usual is reglan (metroclopramide) but honestly it sounds like poor Andre’s problem was not stasis but perhaps something else since he passed so quickly.
