Gah… I just typed out a huge post about my 2 new foster bunnies and it didn’t post! Anyway… I went to the Kansas City HRS meeting today and asked about volunteering and being a foster… and I came home with 2 cute dutch foster bunnies! First ones listed on this page (I’ll post pics once I take some!): http://www.mohrs.org/hrswebpg2.html They’re 6 yrs old so they might be a longterm foster if no one wants an older pair- but I’m ok with that, and they’re so cute and sweet I can’t imagine them not getting adopted! Time to go make them some toys!

Congrats they sure look comfy   It is good to give older buns a chance.

I put out printouts of my friends rehomers and hopefully they will go to a good home. I put on the ad that older buns are better cause their personalities are already developed so you know what you are getting and spneutered too.

When I saw your Spot I thought of my friends Dutch rehomers one whose name is Spotty… HE has a heart shape where yours has a spot on his back.  I thougth he went home with you..  Then you  mentioned Kansas so I know it wasn’t the same bunny.

Aw what sweet lil bunnies and what a sweet thing for you to do. I can’t believe how beautiful they are, Dutches are my favourite, I’d just try and keep them if I ever fostered Dutches.

Awwwww, congratulations!!! You have done a wonderful thing opening up your home to two older bunnies who need some more space and a quiet home for now. When I read the title of your posting, my first thought was ‘yeah, right! Fostering! Haha!’ My husband and I are complete failures when it comes to fostering. That’s how we got our first bunny Velvet.

It is so nice to know that these two older bunnies can finally relax and call your home ‘home’ (though they might find another forever home). No matter what, they have found a home and won’t need to be caged up or uncertain about their future.

I’m all for older animals. You know exactly what you are getting, they don’t cause much trouble (no chewing around like madness), and they seem to be more grateful once they understand that they are finally home.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have my fullest respect!

You would never know that Spot is 6 yrs old- he’s been running and binkying all over my room all day! And I made a bunch of toys (I put pics in the toy forum) and he’s played with all of them so far. Of course, Twitch won’t come out from the second floor of the cage! I finally put some hay up there with him because I started getting worried he was going to starve and now I’m wondering if I should hook a little bottle up for him…

Liza- I definately won’t complain if I “foster” these 2 for years!

Twitch begrudgingly eating some strawberries tops in his hideout… (he secretly loved them- he just didn’t want to show it!)

At what point should I worry that Twitch won’t come out???? I’m beginning to wonder if he thinks that he’s stuck? Maybe he hopped up to the second level of the cage (see picture in above post) and now can’t figure out how to come down? It’s a small cage though! And I put in the ramp that came with the cage just in case… He’s eating the hay I put up there with him and is grooming himself… he just won’t come down from there! I’m half tempted to shoo him down so that he’ll be near the food and water… but I don’t want to intrude on “his” space while he’s still settling in so I know I should probably wait… silly bun! He has me all in a tizzy! It’s so funny because Spot keeps coming out and hopping around the room and jumping and playing, then he’ll go up to where Twitch is and I can practically hear him saying “Come on out and play! It’s fun!” Twitch will spin around in circles all happy that Spot came up to visit him but he still won’t budge from his spot!

oh poor Twitch… he’s apparently not the smartest bunny ever… I finally caved and just lifted him out of the cage and put him down on the ground- he’s been running and binkying and exploring nonstop since then! I really think he was “stuck” on the second floor of the cage! I guess I won’t be building him a bunny palace/condo!!!

hahaha, poor Twitch, up there thinking that Spot gets to have all the fun while he’s stuck up in the cage.

It was pretty sad once I realized he thought he was stuck!!! I actually got dizzy watching him hop around after that! For 5 hours straight! He doesn’t stop ever… he just keeps going… it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen. And silly me, I was laying on the floor (to bond with them of course) and it wasn’t until the third time he knocked over my full water glass that I realized I had discovered his favorite game. It goes something like this….

me: fill up glass with nice, cold, filtered water to drink and put on ground next to me

Twitch: comes up and gently bops it with his nose pretending to not notice as it tumbles over soaking me

me: fill up glass with nice, filtered water to drink (no longer cold since I had just refilled the pitcher!) and put on ground next to me

Twitch: hops over and bats at the glass with his paw, binkying away in the opposite direction

me: fill up glass with tap water (to tired to deal with the pitcher at this point) and don’t ask why, but I again put it on the ground

Twitch: charges over and lunges into the water glass before I can even blink my water is again watering my rug

me: fill up glass half way full with tap water (can’t be bothered anymore for a full glass) and sets it so up high that now I can’t even reach it from my bed….

I set up an experiment today and put the levels back into the cage, but a lot lower… and he got stuck again even though they were only a few inches off the ground! I think it’s because of the texture of the floor- he has no problem jumping up onto a cardboard box 3x his height and then back off again- but jumping down from those plastic floors he just doesn’t like! My project for next weekend is to build them a little condo (little compared to the 5 story condo Ember and Teddy have), hopefully he won’t get trapped in that! I’ll have to make sure I get grass mats or something with a whole lot of traction for the floors…

What a naughty bun! Dutches are too clever sometimes I think. Charlie loves to knock things over too.
