Right now as Atti eats his lovely bedtime salad, he’s standing in his cage full of poops!
He’s been starting to poop everywhere… In the box, out of the box. It gets in his water bowl, salad bowl, anything the little turds can go!
But Today! Oh my word. Today I went to give him some hay and I was standing on a sea of bunny poop and hay!  He scattered his hay all over the floor and there’s poop all over!  I pick up the mats and dump the turds into the trash, but that’s only the ones on the mats.  I’ve given up cleaning them all because later the same day it’ll be full again!

Could this be because of my kitten who’s living on the other side of the fence? (I have a fence in my room so he can’t get to the “dangerous” side)
Charlie and Atticus get along really well, but Atticus started crapping when Charlie started playing with him… I’ve stopped letting Charles go over to Atti’s side, but I don’t know what to do.  Will it stop?  Charlie’s only about 5-weeks-old, so in a few weeks he’ll be old enough to stay on the main floor, making Atti the only critter in the room… But I don’t want to have to deal with this anymore!  I definitely don’t appreciate walking over to him only to stand in crap!

ahh, tell me this is just a phase of him marking his “area”!!!!!

Here’s some pictures of him.  I moved the poops around so the bowl would sit flat

And here’s him and Charlie through the fence

I have no great answers, but can tell you that Coco has been protesting her litter too. I moved it over to where she “decided” to poop…and that only seemed to inspire her to start pooping more and EVERYWHERE else.

I was hoping it was some “change of season” bun issue….but I doubt it.

Holy Moley! That’s alot! Least you can be assured his gut is moving well. I didn’t realise Atti was a rex – that’s one divine looking bunny!

Baleful, I’d be more than happy to move his litter box, but he still pees and poops in it! Every morning and night I scoop it out, but he’s still doing it everywhere!
And I guess it’s good that his gut’s working well, but jeeze Atticus, that’s a ton of poops!
Atti better not think he’s so divine he’s allowed to poop wherever he wants! 😀
Before I went to bed I went and picked up the turds from inside his cage, but just swept the carpet poop over to the corner (it was late and I’m lazy) This morning there was only one huddle of turds out of the box! I’m thinking today will be a vaccuum day

do you have a larger litterbox you can use for him? he looks like a big boy and that corner box might be feeling too cramped. if you got a medium size cat box (about 12×16 inches or so: one large enough for him to lay down inside) and put hay at one end, that might help encourage him to do his business there. also, you only need about 1 inch of litter in the bottom of the box. if there are piles of poop, that’s not necessarily marking and might not be cat-related at all.

                cute kitten by the way!

Atti has gotten bigger since I’ve had him… But I’ve tried using other litter boxes and he just doesn’t use them. I’ll try again though. Could this be the reason every so often there’s a puddle of bunny pee on the mats? He doesn’t do it on the carpet (that I’ve seen or smelled) but I’ll go find a larger poopbox for him. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully if it works Charlie and him can play without the fence in the way!

Wow he is beautiful.  Yeah poop all over is irritating. When Cotton hears me with HB in the bathroom talking to him and holding him cotton gets mad and poops all over by the bedroom door gate. GRRRR. Yeah that litterbox does look a little cramped for that growing bun. Hopefully that will solve his poop problem

i’m pretty sure a bigger litter pan would help. i tried one of those nifty corner pans with my girls and she protested by going EVERYWHERE. she has a medium cat one, where, as Beka27 said, she does lay down and hang out. the hay in the front will definately encourage him to go in there so he has something to do while he’s pooping, like the bunny version of reading a magazine.
anyway, i’ve also noticed that if the pan is too full of litter my girl won’t go in there becuase theres no room for her, and his litter box looks pretty full. and my only last bit of information is that if the litter pan is too full of poops picky buns won’t go in there. when my buns pan is too full of poops she goes all over her cage and everywhere, because i too am lazy and sometimes skip a day. but thats my buns way of telling me to go clean her pan, and cage, and everything else she’s near.
when you get the new pan, should you chose to do that, put some poops in there to encourage him so he knows its his and thats where to do his thing. good luck

My boys have a HUGE litter pan. They go in it…and everywhere else too. Thumper, who used to be meticulous with her poops now poos in AND out of her box…and Digger, who wasn’t litter trained at all when I got him, poops ONLY in his box. I don’t know what the deal is with the poop waves but I’m about done with it myself.

                              Great picture SnuggleBunny!

Nikiway, if you do try a new litter box, maybe try one with high sides. Atti might like the feeling of backing up to a high side like the one he has in his current box. A bigger box also means you can put some hay in one end. Don’t know why it is but they seem to do heaps of poop while munching hay so maybe he’ll do most of it then. Hopefully!

I haven’t been on for a while but I gave Atti a larger box complete with hay and everything!

THERE’S STILL POOPS EVERYWHERE! He still poops in the old box, now poops in the new box, and continues to poop all over his cage and the carpet!
ooOooO boy, he’s so lucky he’s cute or there would be some bunny butts being beat! ehehe I’m kidding, although it is quite annoying!

Oh well, hopefully it’s just a jealous thing with the kitten… I’m hoping when Charlie’s big enough to live on the main floor everything will go back to normal!

Hi Nikiway, I do think it is because of the kitten and Atti is making darn sure that fuzzy thing on the other side of the fence knows that it is HIS.  Have you tried introducing them to each other?  Often times introductions are started with the new one being in the fenced-on area.  You just may want to try it to see if it helps some.

                                  Here is a bit of insight;

                                  http://www.rabbit.org/journal/2-11/cats-and-rabbits.html

In the mean-time you may want to put litter boxes along the adjoining area or limit the view by clipping a sheet over part of the pen wall.  Then you can leave a large enough gap to fit one litterbox and it should help at least until the introductions are over.

Where do you put the hay? Bunnies love to poop while they chew hay. Do you put the hay in the litterbox? I keep a large pile of hay on top of the litter, thay way my bun poos and chews and his pin stays clean. And he always has hay to chew on throughout the day.

My bun was recently pooing everywhere. On top of being territorial (is Charlie a new addition), when I extended her litterbox into a storebought cage, she did much better with the ability to go in more space.

I was wondering….do bunnies lose their poop for territory after they are spayed/neutered?  I wasn’t sure if it was a sexual issue or a rabbit issue?  I swear that since Leo’s been neutered he poops like the Snuggle pic….I have to clean out litterboxes daily…and then he started pooping on the food shelf!  I’m w/ you Niki…bunny spankings for all OR as someone said before…”…in the pot w/ him!”

I only wish they lost the marking territory with poo after altering but nope. They can make them extra-stinky to mark territory.
