I am not sure if anyone else is familiar with Cortez hay, but today my feed store was out of the bales of timothy and they recommended “Cortez” hay instead. I’m not sure if the name is particular to the hay company – but it is a mix of timothy, orchard, brome, and alfalfa. I asked about the perscentage of alfalfa, and they said about 10%, so I figured I would give it a try. We got the bale and it is so green and fresh! We haven’t seen any alfalfa in it yet (we are keeping an eye out so that we can pull it out if we see any big stalks of it), but the bunnies are going crazy for the hay so there must be at least the scent of alfafa in there
Anyways, for those in the Dallas area, the company I get it from is called AAA hay (aaahay.com) – they have a store in Fort Worth, and they sell lots of premium grade hays. It was very hard for me to find timothy or oat in the Dallas area, so I thought I’d send out this recommendation if there are others with the same problem!
