…of older rabbits that have been living separately to bond?

You see, my two buns are brothers and used to be bonded. We did a big boo-boo when they were younger, and when Dylan was beginning to have his teeth problems, we only took him, and not Thomas, to the vet. Eventually, they started fighting.

We didn’t really have much time (should’ve made time, really) and so, we never really re-bonded them together. Over the years, their hutch has been together (through wire) and they can even reach each other. They tend to groom one another through it. Never fought.

HOWEVER. If you release the two, they always fight. They’ll tolerate both being out at the same time, but NOT being in each other’s eyesight. Or their favourite area of the house.

We tried for a bit when we moved, and they didn’t seem THAT bad. But they still fought when together.

I think they’re 6 years now, is it too late…?

No, I think you might have a better chance of bonding older rabbits than younger rabbits. Are they neutered?

i think you should definitely try to bond them. you have to be aware tho that it might take time. you can’t just put them together and hope they will bond. short sessions in a neutral location is the first step…

are they outside now? i know you posted another thread saying that they might have to move outside. whatever happened with that?

Well if they are neutered, it would be easier to try to bond. And, yes I believe that they can be bonded. It will just take a lot more work.

                Yes, they are neutered.

No, they’re not outside yet. That’s why I was thinking about this, that maybe they’d be happier if somehow I could bond them before that point. X_x

http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/bond.shtml   this is my fav bonding article.  give it a read and then as soon as you want you can start bonding in a neutral location.

X_x That part will be hard. I don’t know if there’s anywhere left that’s truly neutral…

But I always thought that part weird. They’re quite nice, grooming each other and all, as long as they’re partially separated. Any reason for that…?

there’s less of a threat when they are separated by a cage? Markus said in a different thread that they might be guarding the cage? i’m not entirely sure of why that is… but you’ll need to work with them everyday for at least 15-20 minutes (more if you can) in a location that neither of them goes often… laundry room, mudroom, walk-in closet (that is safe: nothing to chew up), bathroom, even a bathtub. it might take weeks, it might take a couple months of everyday work, but it is beneficial to both to have a mate. esp if they have to be outside (which i still don’t recommend at all.)
