I picked her up about an hour ago and shes hating life… she certainly isnt taking it as well as Rain did. Shes very stressed out, shaking and is obviously miserable. The vet said she was too young to be spayed and had to dig around looking for her “parts” she had lots and lots of cysts also (not sure what that means) because of abbie they have changed their procedure and are no longer taking rabbits (Regardless of size) under 6mos (Abbie turns 4mos tomorrow).
Abbie weighs 8lbs (HUGE) and i will take pics tonight… her incision looks great, its very small. as expected she has lots of abdomen swelling but at least shes not covered in betadine like Rain was.
oh my. that sounds awful. i agree that 4 months is way too young for a spay. i’m surprised they’d even do it at that age. i know people can have benign cysts and it’s nothing to worry about. will they be doing any kind of tests on them?
feel better baby girl!
she didnt say they were going to do any tests on the cysts.. I asked her if she is has a higher chance of still getting cancer because she had commented that she thinks she got all the cysts but to keep an eye on her (as if i would do anything else!) but she was fairly certain she got everything… they spent alot of time looking around
i had been told as long as they are 4 mos spay and neuter was fine… now there was a couple people through a rescue i talk to who said for larger breeds you should wait till 6mos but we didnt want to wait in fear her and rain would never be able to live together, wanted to get the spay out of the way, let alone the whole thing with the cancer.
Im hoping she feels better soon, i brought her back to work with me (very quiet office) in her carrier so shes close to me, i can watch her exc. I covered her carrier with a towel (kept front open) so i can see her but it will help keep the cool draft of the office off her for I know after surgery one can get cold due to blood loss, anest., exc. Im waiting for a call back from the vet about possibly getting some metacam and critical care so we will wait and see what they say… she has NO interest in eating anything at all at this point.
Aww poor Abbie! I hope she starts feeling better soon! Did they give her pain meds?
im waiting for the call back still (grrr) im not sure exactly what they gave her, she is sleeping though in her carrier right now and had quite a few poos for me
(((((((((ABBIE))))))))
Hope she recovers well. I’m a bit surprised they told you she was too young after doing the spay (?) Hopefully the pain meds will make things more comfortable for her.
Poor Abbie, hopefully she feels more comfortable soon.
My Layla was also too you to be spayed and she took a little while to get back on her fluffy feet, and also took a lot longer to actualy recover – guess because they poke around it causes more bruising and they have to get in further than usual.
(((((Abbie))))
oh no poor abbie! ***vibes*** keep us posted!
shes feeling much better this morning.. she munched on some apple and hay last night, not a whole lot but enough to make me happy
im going to post pics today when i get home from work
Yea little . . .umm, big Abbie!
I hope she is back dragging those big ears around soon!
how’s she doin’ now? you home from work yet?
{{{{{ABBIE}}}}}
I just got home… im going to be posting them here in a few. She looks 100xs better today, much more active and is even wanting out of her cage. Tonight were going to let her have run of the house depending on how she acts. look out for pics here in a few ![]()
Yay, glad to hear that Abbie is recovering nicely. Try offering her some fresh greens, this is often the first food that they take after surgery. Good Luck and keep us informed!
shes been eating her typical diet with a few grapes and apple slices, the greens (Spring mix salad & rommaine) actually upset her tummy and give her loose stools so she rarely if ever gets “Real” greens.
Speedy recovery ***healing vibes*** ADEE it’s good to see you again, you had us worried!
