Bindi was fine this morning. I just checked on him and he doesn’t want to eat. I heard his tummy gurgle a bit so I gave him 0.5 ml of simethicone. How often can I gave it and is that a good amount? I’m hoping it’s just gas. I got groceries last night and he had a lot of variety of veggies this morning, although all veggies he’s had before. His tummy seems really soft. What else should I do? I will call the vet if he worsens or doesn’t get better in a few hours.
Help and vibes please.
I don’t do simethicone so I cannot help there.
Have you tried hand feeding him favorite veggies?
How long has it been since he’s stopped eating or pooping?
Vibes to Bindi.
Im not sure how long he’s last pooped. His litter box was pretty full and I changed it last night. I offered him lettuce and parsley no go. And my usual rabbit vet is not in today. That pisses me off. I gave him a massage for 5 minutes. When should I try force feeding him?
How long ago did he eat? Do you know?
Are there poops this morning?
I assume he’s been pooping all night but I only change it at night but it was pretty full, his usual. He ate breakfast, ravevous at about 7 and then a papaya candy later in the morning. Now he’s laying down and getting up like he’s really uncomftorable
Maybe he’s full since he ate so much. I’m wondering if he’s very sensitive to sugar since he ate a papaya candy – might want to think about that.
I would give him a little while before you start hand feeding him. See how he does this evening since he’s eaten he does have something in his stomach. In fact I would wait until tomorrow morning if it was me, but that’s just me.
I’d wait another half hour before giving him another .5ml of smithecone.
He’s extremely hard to administer medicine too. Way harder than Stormy.
I called around and the emergency clinic can see him after 600 so if he’s not eating or pooping Ill have to bring him there. Unfortunetly they charge insane prices for emerg care. Last time Stormy got sick I brought him there at 12:00 a.m. the bill was over 300. At least the vet was very knowledgable.
Now Im really scared I found a piece of my hanging plant near his cage (it’s in the rabbit room while my bedroom is being painted) but hanging away from the cages. It’s sort of like a spider plant variety I think and I’m scared one of the cats was chewing on it and knocked a piece into his cage and he ate it. What should I do if this is the case?
What kind of plant is it? Here is a list of plants that are poisonous to rabbits…

I usually give a full dose once an hour for the first two hours, then once every 3 hours. If Bindi isn’t eating or pooping you need to suppliment with Critical Care to keep things moving and get to a vet asap – he may need motility drugs.
You cannot overdose on Ovol, it will cause no harm so don’t worry. Good luck with Bindi!
Okay, my heart is jumping, he just ate a few pellets and a tiny piece of lettuce but won’t eat anymore. I’m so glad he ate something.
I can’t believe it. I just literally called every vet in the city (about 8) and they either don’t take rabbits or the rabbit doctor is out today!Grrrr.. One clinic says we can take him tommorow afternoon!! Hello!!!!!! He is sick now, idiot. It’s so frustrating. I called one clinic in the next town over whos ad in the phone book has a dog, cat, bird and rabbit. I call and “we only take cats and dogs”. That is the stupidest thing! Then why the “explicit” is there a rabbit in your ad? I’m sorry I just need to vent. This is reminicsent of when my last bunny Bean died. He got sick on a Sunday and no vets could take him.
I tend to freak out in these gi statis times because I lost 2 rabbits in the past to similar circumstances. When a rabbit doesn’t want food I freak. Bindi LOVES food so I was concerned right away.
Well he’s eating so that’s good.
I find that my rabbits will eat their fill and then graze all day on the hay (I’m guessing this though since I’m not home from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) and I give a big old huge salad in the morning and limited pellets at night which I find are usually their in the morning too.
I did have Pepe recently stop eating for 14 days though which is the most I’ve ever had them go without eating.
I can understand though your concern since you’ve had 2 that you have lost due to similar circumstances – did you by chance know what they actually died from?
Try giving Bindi some tummy rubs. And keep him active and moving. If it’s gas, this will help pass the bubbles. Do you have any metacam? If you do, give him a dose of that after he eats something (never on an empty stomach) – this will help curb the pain (if there is any) and then he may eat a bit.
Try taking some hay and tickling his nose with it – the idea is to annoy him with the hay so much that he grabs it with his teeth – this sometimes gets them to nibble on hay at least a little….
Has he been pooping? That is most important. It may be time to force feed him a bit of Critical Care…
Bindi ate supper. Although more slowly than usual. His eyes are brighter too and he’s moving around. Should I assume gas?
No I never found out what my past rabbits died from because I didn’t know of any rabbit savvy vets at the time who would be able to help determine (that’s why it was so frustrating when they got sick too). I didn’t want to pay for an autopsy or procedure to be done by some dog vet.
Stormy gets statis once in a while and I have no idea what causes it because I feed them as per house rabbit reccomendations, limited measured timothy pellets, lots of timothy hay and fresh greens 2x a day. Frustrating.
Yeh, maybe the mixture of veggies just disagreed with him and he had some gas? It’s so frustrating when you do all the right things and they still get sick!!
Perhaps also it would be a good idea to move the house plants elsewhere? It might help ease your mind if this should happen again.
I hope Bindi is okay. Sending healing vibes your way! Poor little bun! I’d also prescribe a nice, calming cup of tea or something like for yourself, poor dear! ^_^
Well Bindi is back to himself this morning. Angrily demanding I go faster getting breakfast ready!!! I gave him less pellets than normal and tons of hay, I think I’ll keep his pellets a bit low for the next few days just as a precaution.
Thanks for helping me deal with this guys. Only a mini scare but still a scare!
YAY! OH, I am glad he is doing better!
Yay Bindi! DJ has done this to me a couple of times, weird flopping side to side, won’t eat, then a few hours later he is fine.
Glad to hear Bindi is feeling better again! ^_^
Yes Thank goodness!!!
