As far as cost problems – I personally didn’t really see much of a difference between two rabbits as opposed to one. The main concern I would think would be the period that you have to keep them separated since you would need a separate litterbox, cage, etc.

As far as the odds that they won’t bond at all – that is more difficult for me to answer. The male to female bond is the easiest bond that there is to do – but it also depends on the personality of the two bunnies. I would have to say that there is always the possibility that two bunnies absolutely cannot get along, but as you can see from experience like Markusdark’s, even though it took 2 and a half months – they two bunnies DID bond! If their personalities are not a good match, you may be in for a longer bonding process, but even then I would hesitate to say that it is impossible. I recently adopted a bunny and tried to bond her to one of my single males, after a few dates, the process was not going smoothly, so we switched to bonding her to another boy. I do think though, that eventually the two would have gotten along, but it could have been a few months before they lived together peacefully.

i believe Sally’s bun is 8 weeks old. so it would be about 4 months before she could be spayed. it’s best to not introduce until both are altered and healed. there is a chance that the bonding may take weeks or months to complete, with every day sessions. i’d suggest you read some of the bonding threads in this section to see what people end up doing day after day after day. you do need two completely separate set-ups at the beginning, and the final cage, condo or pen will need to be large enough for two bunnies.

unlike MooBunnay, i do see a difference in cost betw/ 1 and 2 bunnies. mine go for monthly vet nail trims, so that is more expensive. i go thru double hay (and i buy the Oxbow which is a little pricey as it is), double pellets (Oxbow again, so ditto the price) and i spend betw/ 100 and 120 dollars a month on veggies. up from about 50 bucks with one. mine have two litter boxes (i tried the one shared litterbox thing and it didn’t work for us) so litter is doubled now too. we can afford it, but it’s definitely something you need to keep in mind…

It is a little more expensive, but I think you need to consider what happens when you go from one to two or more bunnies…You know that obsessed feeling you get about bunnies? Constantly on BB chatting bunny? Making your coworkers crazy talking about bunnies? Yup-it GETS WORSE when you add more bunnies!!

Ok but seriously it’s not that much different cost wise, but they aren’t free If you can afford, go for it.

I’m going to say in terms of the percentage that they won’t get along is almost nill. I’ve heard and believe you can bond any two bunnies as long as you have the patience and commitment. It’ll be a while before you can start (although you can do preliminary things once he’s neutered, like setting cages near each other, switching cages, stunt doubles) so you’ll have to do seperate out times, cuddling, grooming etc. It’s an adjustment but not bad at all!!
