Friday I got a 3-week-old kitten.   His name’s Charlie and he was abandoned in a box with a towel in a parking lot on September 10th.  He’s been here since Friday, and he hasn’t been in contact with Atticus til just now, when he climbed over his area (I left a pillow by my bed, so he somehow got over that onto my bed, where he then got into Atticus’ area)

Luckily I was here, and saw it so I got him out and over on my side (Atti’s in his night time area for now) But Charlie has a cold, I think a URI, but we can’t get him to the vet til Thursday.  Even if it is a upper resp. infection, it’s viral so he will prbably have to wait it out 🙁

But, when Charlie and Atti were interacting for the 30 seconds I watched, Charlie tried to rub against Atti (prob because he’s so soft and momma cat like lol) and Atti pretty much let him!  But then I wondered if bunnies could get sick from kittens and decided I’d better ask.

          Possibly roundworm or hookworm.

          Also possibly pasturella.

Alright, then if the kitten has the sniffles, Atti shouldn’t get the sniffles?

I think it’s best to keep them separated until the kitten see’s a vet. You will need to tell the vet that you have a rabbit too just in case the kitten has something Atti can catch since you don’t know what type of URI the kitten has. Pasturella is an URI as well.

I hope that both bun and kitty are still doing well today You should be able to tell pretty soon if your bunny got the sniffles from your cat, the vet can probably give you some Baytril to give to the bunny just in case.

Charlie’s doing fine, other than his eyes are watering way to much! Atticus is acting like usual, just a little envious because now the kitten lives on the other side of the room and gets too much attention! But he’s still eating and pooping and askin for lovins!
                      Thanks for the help!

I asked this question with my bunny being sick and my vet said that she has never heard of cross contamination between cats and rabbits although flease and parasites are a different story obviously.

                        Ben

For a kitten that young you might want to buy some ‘benebac’ designed for kittens that left mom too early. It helps balance their GI also you can give goats milk…What are you feeding the poor little kitty? Lucky to have you to look after her!!

Thanks for the concern KokaneeandKahlua! Charlie’s eating KMR 2nd step and Wellness wet kitten formula. Before I got him they were feeding him some offbrand cat food, and he goes crazy for the real food, so that’s why he gets both. I didn’t go for the goat’s milk since I was at the petstore anyways, where I bought him the KMR. The vet said since he’s pooping and peeing fine, he’s okay with the diet. Hopefully everything goes well and he grows up happy and healthy!
