Our adopted bunny (Digby) was neutered this past Thursday (4 days ago) and we brought him home last night.  He seems to have settled in and is doing everything I’ve read a normal happy bunny should be doing.

However, the skin around the incisions (but not directly on the incision site) seems to be scabbing over a bit. The skin is a little yellow and flaky. He’s not bleeding, and I couldn’t see any oozing fluids or anything. It’s hard to get a good clear look since I haven’t been able to get him on his back for more than a couple seconds at a time.

Any idea if this is normal? The incisions don’t look infected, so hopefully it’s not an emergency. I couldn’t get anyone knowledgeable on the phone at the local animal hospital, but there’s a rabbit expert there that I’ll call tomorrow. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks.

Hi beecq, the yellow could be iodine they used to sterilize the area before making the incision. Do you know what type of sutures they used? Definately keep an eye on it to make sure he is not picking at them or they break open. This does not sound like an emergency as there is no redness, swelling or oozing however I would definately give the rabbit expert a call tomorrow since I assume they performed the procedure. Be sure your little guy Digby is eating and pooping normally and doesn’t start to really pick at the incisions. If he does pick at it, it may be necessary to collar to the poor guy. Congrats on your new addition Digby!

Yeah, he’s been eating, drinking, pooping, doing binkies (), and has been very friendly and curious about his new home.

I’ll call them tomorrow. Thanks for the reassurance.

Sounds like he’s doing very well. Let us know what the vet says.

Looks like I was just being an over-protective bunny parent. The vet said it’s just the skin glue they used to close up after the operation. Digby’s just fine – doing bunny 500s and binkies as I type
