But for the last two days I have been trying the “greens and pellets” in a paper bag thing, and  Coco ( for all of her extraordinary biting and chewing ability) doesn’t  seem to “get it” in regards to getting the food out.

I’ve poked small holes ( as a start like in the picture on binkybunny) – and squeezed the bag so the wafting aroma of yummy greens is tempting. Coco looks at me like “You have GOT to be kidding me – You want me to work for the food?”

She is now ignoring the bag with the evening salad and digging into the hay. She ignored the morning bag for the most part – even though there were some alfalfa sprouts  for added attraction – finally I poked a big enough hole for her to be able to just stick her nose in and eat.

Am I going to have to tough it out and wait for her to get off her bunny throne and do some work to get into the bag? She is chowing down on the hay right now, so I am not worried that she isn’t eating – Just maybe some reassrance that other bunnies took a little time to get into the foraging routine….

Mimzy absolutely REFUSES paws down to ‘work’ for his supper. The most he will do is climb to his sleeping shelf to nose about in his pellet bowl before settling down for a nice, long snooze. Pip (who is currently my diva bunny) will tear anything apart that stands between her and her noms.

I haven’t tried it with Fiver yet. I think he’d probably just get frustrated, as he hasn’t had to really do much of anything since he arrived and seems to think he is Lord of the Bed. ^_^

Some bunnies just don’t enjoy the ‘wild rabbit’ routine is my guess. Pip will get all upset if I scatter her pellets, for example. And your Coco sounds like she is perfectly happy having you wait upon her hand a foot as often as she sees fit. I see how you’re trying to interest her in things other than cords and such. Understandable. But your boss bun seems to be pulling the strings at the moment.
And I read somewhere that bunnies see cords and other long, stringy objects the way they’d see roots and vines in the wild, and determine to move them as, if they were digging a burrow, these things would be undesirable and would impede movement or escape. So she’s got some feral in her somewhere. Just not, perhaps, when it comes to the bunny slave serving food a certain way. ^_^

Hammer doesnt seem to understand either. He just isnt interested in the bag, sniffed it a few times walking by but never did anything to get the food or shred the bag. kinda made me sad lol

I tried that once with Tucker..she nosed it a few times and then ended up thinking it was a lounge pillow and sat on it.

I did throw them about the pen for a bit. I was met by a huge trail of poops ALLLL over the cage everyt morning.  I don’t know whether it was just that she was eating all over and so the poops fell all over or if she was saying “oh yea lady? you want me to work for my food? how bout you work to clean my cage!” LOL.   But anyway, now I spread her veggies around but I don’t spread her pellets around.  After watching her one night she tends to only go for a few bites and then come back later anyway.  So, it’s not like she’s the type of bun to sit and eat, eat, eat til it’s gone anyway.  She just would rather “forage” in the same location each time she gets the urge for a bite of food hehe.

                    I admit defeat.
I held out until this morning ( to be honest last night, when I poked a bigger hole in the bag). It wasn’t good enough, apparently.

She became a hellion this morning. And I offered salad and pellets in their usual places.

I can feel her pity for this poor, dim human.

Well, I have to admit I was defeated also. I tried for a few days to get my two bunnies to eat from the bag. I started with poking some small holes, then making bigger holes, and finally ripping one side open. They ended up peeing in the bag. I knew I had lost at that point because my bunnies are very litter trained.

I thought the food bag was a great idea and was really hoping it would work. My bunnies have become very lazy and I wanted to give them some stimuli. They don’t play much anymore – they’re about 4 years old. But they seem happy just hanging out with each other.

My son is jealous of how spoiled the bunnies are. It’s not like he isn’t 18 and fully capable of going out and spoiling himself. lolz…

Maybe he wants me to hand feed him veggies and hay? xD
