Hey i just wondering if anyone had a list of bad or poisionous veggies for buns. I have a list of good veggies hagging on his cage but wanted to have a bad list for reference too. I went and got that cok choy stuff, alfalfa sprouts and musturd greens today and found something called leeks. Anyone know anything about leeks too? Dont worry if its bad, i didnt buy any yet.

leeks are kind of like onions I believe..and if so I believe those would be bad.  I think on the bunny info section there is a list of the veggies that should be avoided.

leeks are yummy. they make a great potato soup. but bunnies can’t have them. have you seen the BB diet page list? it has a bunch of no-no foods on it.

I had been to the diet page awhile back but didnt note the list in my head lol. Thanks for the source, even when it was right under my nose i didnt find it haha. I had never even heard or seen leeks today. And that bok choy stuff looks so funny lol. but hammer likes it. i think mustard greens are his ideal veggie right now though

I tend not to be too adventurous with my greens, just because my bunnies like about 5 specific types, romaine, red leaf lettuce, parsley, cilantro and green leaf lettuce. I have read that it is OK to be somewhat consistent with the types of greens you feed your bunny as long as you get a little bit of variety in there!

Is it okay that Hammer has TONS of variety right now? Its like bok choy, parsley, cilantro, alfalfa sprouts, mustard greens, celery leafs, carrot tops and danilion greens all in one salad. I think its all in small enough amounts and he is used to it except the bok choy

HAhah Beka you and me both have a list of bunny veggies and not-good-to-eat veggies in our purses!?!!

As long as hammer doesn’t get any upset from introducing them (you want to introduce slowly) and is fine with them, then lots of variety is great!

Clerks in the store think you are a major health nut buying all those veggies? You know you’re a bunny slave

One clerk was asking me what this veggie was and what this one was…then she asked how do I eat them…hahah had to fess up they weren’t for me!!

^^^lol! like K&K said, just watch him if you’re introducing something new. i have started being a bit more frugal. i will usually buy the less expensive romaine instead of the more expensive (per pound) endive. the bunnies don’t seem to care. i love feeding collard greens b/c they are very cheap. watercress, which is a bit pricier, is a special occasion type veggie. red leaf lettuce is a big hit, but it tends to get yucky very quick for some reason. i will usually skip over that for the hardier green leaf variety. after awhile, you’ll get a good repertiore of what he likes, what fits your budget, what lasts longer. on my “handy purse list”, i make a little note next to what works and what doesn’t.

I actually bought some green saver containers today so crossing my fingers they work. I actually asked for the carrot tops today at the store. We had three people asking us, how many? just tops? okay? not the whole carrot? Let me get the manager. lol it was crazy. i was so excited and then they brought out the carrot “tops”. no green leafy stuff, just stubs, i wanted to cry lol

they cashier did actually have to ask me a few times what the veggies were lol

i wouldnt be getting them from that place. they do chop off the tops but they come to the store without the leafy part. So ill have to try and find a store that gets carrots WITH the tops still leafy green

hahaha – so many people do not eat vegetables straight from the ground anymore, they were probably thinking “green? I thought carrots were orange…”

As long as your bunny tolerates the new types of veg well, I think that variety is fine. My bunnies tend to do well with a lot of consistency, so I stick with their Top 5 veggies! I tried to feed collards once and all they did was sniff them and then give them the bum.
