I just glanced at the date column as I was cruising the forum…  It’s 9/11 today.

My BF’s a volunteer firefighter, so I worry about things like that.  If you have a moment, think some nice thoughts in remembrance of all the victims and their families today.

        Thanks guys.

My dad works at the pentagon…I worry about him everyday….Ecspecially in September because that’s when the thought of 9/11 is renewed.

I ran the gamut of feelings from early this morning to now and will probably be shedding tears most of the evening as well.

A lot of radio stations I listen to are playing some of the audio from key locations on that day.
It brings it all back into VERY sharp focus.

I begin to understand my grandfather’s generation and their animosity towards the Japanese and Hitler. It doesn’t excuse hatred of any kind, if anything, it firmly cements my desire to see this world rise above that very primal emotion, which is part of what led us to the horrific events of 9/11.

I didn’t lose anyone personally, but I know people who did. It is still as crushing as it was 7 years ago.

I pray nothing like it ever happens again.

The new memorial at the Pentagon sounds lovely, though I wish we could get the Ground Zero projects in gear and completed. Even if all they ever do is create the garden they had originally planned. These people need to be remembered and honored for the sacrifice foisted upon them.

I can’t believe that was 7 years ago. I remember watching it live on the news when the towers came down. That image bothered me for the longest time.

My hubby woke me up about 6-7 AM Alaska time, he’d been watching the t.v. most of the early morning since he doesn’t sleep well. And by that time both towers were down and the whole thing was being re-run on the television. He tells me that “they flew planes into the buildings, the WTC is completely gone.” I was like, “WHO flew planes? What do you mean the towers are gone??” It was total shock.
We just watched the news coverage and I couldn’t stop shaking, thinking, “Somebody just started WW3.” All I could think of was how we would tell the children…They were 10 and 12 at the time. And we had spent so many years trying to keep them from being influenced by the news, this was one we couldn’t avoid. Yet it didn’t seem possible we could tell them.

And how quiet the world was while they kept the airspace closed! We usually have beautiful blue skies in September here…but it was like being somewhere back in the 19th century…and of course even the sound of a car backfiring would send me running.

                  It was a terrible time.

I sure did. I took a long pause and prayed for everyone. I’ll never forget. I was working in a tall building in Boston and we were evacuated. We had TV’s in the reception area and I could not beleive my eyes, I watched in horror. On my way home it was eerie, only police cruisers, ambulances and fire trucks were patrolling the streets and very few pedestrians were out and I was questioned by a police officer why I was outside trying to get home because my boss was an arse and made me stay later than everyone else to lock up.

i remember i came home from school (because im like 6 hours a head of you guys) and it was on the news and all the images where on and i was really shocked, i couldnt believe there are people in the world who choose to do things like that, i still cant to be honest. Its just so, i dont want to say funny but you know.. weird? for lack of a better word, that everyone in that building got up like it was a normal day, went along with their normal business, and ended up dead/injured. Its just so amazing to think in a matter of minutes your life could change forever and there is nothing you could do about it.

I was going to work early before having to go to grad school. I had NPR on, and they interrupted their scheduled programing with the news of the first tower. Nobody knew, at that point, what was going on. Thought it must have been an accident. And then Bush released a statement about terrorists, and I thought, “Oh, geez! Seriously?! Do we have to turn this into a political statement?!” And then the 2nd plane hit, and Bush turned out to be right…

The manager of the theatre I was working for, when asked if that night’s performance would be canceled, replied, “The show must go on!” The psychopath. And the entire staff of the theatre said she could put the show on herself if she wanted, they were going home to start madly calling NYC. (I HATE that cliche, now! And the show did end up getting canceled.)

I remember the utter silence in the skies. I lived in the flight-paths for Long Beach Airport and LAX, and never noticed the plane noise until it was gone. And then when suddenly, there was a helicopter or a plane overhead during that time when most flights were grounded, and there was the FEAR…was it one of our military planes…or not?

I used to LOVE fall, but between 9/11 and all the hurricanes, I wish we could just skip from August to October, and leave September out!
