Max got his big snip snip yesterday and was apparently the best bunny the vet had ever seen. They let him come home yesterday afernoon and he hasnt seemed to be in much pain at all, he’s been laying in his litter box a bit more than usual and not running around quite as much but all in all seem to be doing well. The vet said he was really healthy and weighed 2.7 lbs (I never realized he was that small!).

Now that he’s been neutered I’m ready to get serious about litter training. Currently he does use his litter box but everywhere else too. He pees and poops on the floor of his cage and poops around his pen. His setup right now is such that his cage is open all the time and I have an xpen around the cage which is open if I’m home and closed when I’m not. He seem to feel that anywhere within the xpen is fair game. He never poops outside his pen area and has only peed outside it once or twice, seemingly just to see if he could get away with it. I hate to confine him to his cage only but I’m unsure how to go about getting him to use only his pen or box. I’ve considered getting a bigger litter box that will fill up nearly his whole cage and see if that helps (right now he has one of the corner varieties).

        Any suggestions?

while he heals for a few days i would have him confined to the cage and see how he does. if he’s using the box in there, then you cna open him up to teh xpen, but do not increase his run area until he’s really getting it. too much space too soon will make him forget where he needs to go. have hay and/or some veggies in the litterbox so he can munch and poo. as soon as you see poop out of the box, pick it up and put it where it belongs. with pee, soak it up ASAP with a paper towel, put the towel in the box, and then wipe down the spot with a vinegar solution. keep the cage spotless.
