Does anyone have one… or two? Just wondering what they are like to care for. When I finally am in a position to save another bunz, that is one of the breeds that I would look for. How much space do they take up? Do they eat tons and tons of food? Are they cuddly, loving, dominate or aggressive? Just wondering before I set my mind too firmly on saving one. I’d like to know if it would be completely different than caring for my lionhead… would I be biting off more than I can chew?

i don’t have one, but it’s my dream rescue bun… someday maybe. i have looked at petfinder for flemish giants and i don’t see any within a couple states… so i think we’re safe for now. lol. altho the woman i got Max from had a few, but they are not for adoption (one of the boys is a therapy bunny!)

i noticed a big increase with food costs once we got Max. he eats about twice of what Meadow does in terms of hay and greens, so it was a big jump. i think as long as you were aware of this and had rabbit experience so you’d know what to expect…

edited to add:  we have had a couple members since i’ve been here that had flemish giants.  i think they were babies when they joined, so i joke that they stopped coming on BB b/c their giant buns ate them outta house and home…

I’m pretty sure that our first rescue is a flemish cross…

Anyways from what I’ve read and heard, they are super smart, easy going and lovable Definitely something I want someday!!

That’s true… but then there would be nothing stopping me from running out and doubling the number of rabbits I have…. which while I’m mentally prepared for that… I’m not quite sure if my apartment would hold up too well to 4 bunnies hopping around… But as soon as I get a bigger place…

I love that there are so many of us out there with this thought in mind… “As soon as I get a bigger place I’m rescuing 30 more bunnies.” We are all well onto our way to being that crazy bunny lady instead of the crazy cat lady.

Totally, hooty22! I just went to pick up Robbie from the Bunny Bunch, where I boarded him while I was out of town. They have SOOO many adorable buns for adoption, and I want THEM ALL! And one of my favorites was this huge orange beast of a bunny…they don’t list breeds on their info cards, so I have no idea what kind. But if Lizzy is 5lbs, and Robbie is probably 5.5-6, this guy HAD to have been 9-10lbs of bunny. He was EASILY cocker spaniel-sized. And he hopped on over, and wanted to be pet, and had 9″ long ears (guestimating, again), and was a DARLING! The BF quickly nixed any ideas of adopting him (he had an only slightly smaller bonded girl-bun-friend, so I would have had to get them both…and we are way over our limit of buns already, with 4 living separately between the 2 of us), but giant buns are next on my list!

Actually, what I REALLY want is a giant bun, bonded with a Mini-Rex. I know, I’m a freak. But I’ve always wanted a Mini-Rex. And how cute would that be! Big bun and little bun, living in harmony…awwww!
