I just got in from a walk with my sister and her 2 1/2 yr old.  We were walking along road with houses on one side and creek on the other when we saw a lil Robbie!  Just like Lightchicks Robbie but younger with baby soft fur.  We had a dog with us and it didn’t run of so I approached with some willow which grows along the creek.  It eventually came and had a nibble.  This was not a wild rabbit – I’ve seen a few in my time!  It binkied 3 times!  I’d seen others in the neighbourhood and am aware of a house that lets their rabbits breed and run all over.  I had no success trying to report this thou.

I tell you, the scenarios that went thru my head if only I could catch it………  cages, food, bonding  but it was not to be.  If anything, the area we sighted this fella was pretty idyllic rabbit habitat so I had to let it be.  Boy it was cute though!

Oh boy, that would drive me crazy. I would be haunting the spot trying to get it. It is a shame that you can’t get the authorities to deal with those idiots that let their rabbits breed and go loose.

Oh, Jerseygirl, you should catch him so Jersey can have a friend! I came up with all sorts of scenarios for Robbie-napping, too, and it turned out that all I had to do was put a carrier filled with lettuce in front of the “wild” park-bunny, and he hopped right in!

I hope the little guy’s ok… If he’s a baby, maybe he’ll sort of learn to be wild, and take care of himself… (Robbie very obviously was not scared of humans…big problem for a wild thing in an urban area!)

Oh! It did drive me crazy the first time I sighted these ‘ferals’ and learnt of the culprits! I walked my sisters dog up that street nearly everyday for a few weeks. I did drive back to the new spot on the way home but it was long gone. This “Robbie” one was smallish but old enough to get by and prob old enough to breed! I just gathered it was young because it still had really fluffy fur and was so playful. I guess the fur could be the x breed. I noticed its lips were a darker colour than the pale pink I’m used to seeing. Don’t know if this is true for darker rabbits in general or breed specific or health. It was very endearing.
It was a curious day as we ‘saved’ a caterpillar from certain death, interacted with a rabbit (much to 2yr old nephews delight!) then when I went back to see if it was still about, I had to shoo a duck that had decided to sit in the middle of the road. We are 1 week into Spring over here!

Jerseygirl…sounds like my family. Spring in my area means lots of Canada geese and babies all over the place. They will nest on grass strips next to busy roads if they have to. I can’t tell you how many times we have stopped traffic or almost been in collisions trying to avoid them as the families cross the road. It is hard to enjoy the weather with your heart in your mouth most of the time.
