        Meet Peter Cottontail!!

Our first bunny at our rescue…If anyone has any ideas on breed that will help with his description for his adoption info

I’m going over tonight to volunteer…

So he’s going to get his nails done (you can see they are way too long) and his bum glands cleaned

Oh, he’s handsome – a big beautiful boy. What is his story?

I have no idea what breed he could be. Is he a white or a cream color? It looks like he has dark eyes too. Although I kind of think he might be a Flemish Giant mix or something because of his size and his ears…

He’s a silver color with lilac points. Poor thing is six, and mom had a baby so she has no time for him. We responded to his ‘free to good home’ ad and the owner wanted to drop him off immediately. We took him in that night. I’m seeing him for the first time tonight but he has perfect litter habits and is friendly Good point on the ears!!

Six years old! It’s not that she didn’t have any time for him, she just didn’t want to make the time for him.

              Is he already altered?

No he’s not neutered yet, we’re waiting to hear from my vet to see if she wants to be our exclusive vet-then he gets neutered

Tons procedurally so far!! In touch with Heather from Save a bunny, Olga from VRRA; Paperwork for society forming and non-profit completed last night, website being worked on, logo done, mission statement done, 40 cages purchased, waterbottles and gravity feeders (have tons of hay and hay cubes), formed board of directors …the list goes on LOL

Well that’s not really fair.  If she spent 6 years with him, she apparently had time for him.  However, some people just can’t handle two babies at once.  I have run into many people who give up their buns for adoption when a baby comes along.  The thing is that they’re doing the responsible thing and finding a better home for them instead of just sticking them in a cage and dealing with them “when they get around to it.”

When I filled out the adoption papers for Dono, a question that the Rabbit Haven asks is “would you ever give up your rabbit and why?”  Instead of saying the stock “No, never”, I wrote that I would if it was the best thing for him and his quality of life.  If I had a baby and it was going to impact my care for the bun (as new babies take a lot of time and money), I would find him a good home.

                            ^^ Markus!!! Awww!!

Sarita-Nanci has a whole basement suite she was going to rent out, but thought we’d use it for bunny rescuing instead (there is surely a need here!) Very sweet of her

Our website is http://www.radrabbits.com I think right now it’s only showing a rough draft of our logo, cuz Dave threw it up so we could see what he did late at night, the next day at work But by all means keep checking!!

Thanks everyone for all the support/feedback and ideas xD

I just checked out your site. Nice start. Is it just a coincidence that your acronym HERR would be pronounced “hare” (in German)?

Nicci -the hay cubes are hugely bulk, like size-of-a-car bag of them!! LOL

Tamera-Yes, nanci suggested ‘something like hoppy endings’ which sounded uber cute then I thought, throw the RR at the end and when it abbreviates its “hare” Checked around and it’s not taken either!! Sooo lucky

                                    Thanks Sam!!

                                      that is what I thought : ))))

I wish I could grab some!! I almost want to munch on them myself.

I meant to ask how much does Peter WEIGH  [not ‘way’]  …where were my thoughts…

peter could very well be a lop mix of sort. it don’t look like his ears are really uppy.

                                      very cute!!

oh, KK I wonder how many you will end up keeping for yourself   [don’t worry about Dave’s limit ‘three’?!]

And really too, the breed is not important. You want to emphasize personality and habits rather than breed.

He looks like a Californian mix to me. Californian rabbit’s usually have dark black to lilac points on their nose and ears. He may have himilayan in him, but probably not….

What a cutie pie!! Just wanna give his tail a little tug!! (yes, I’m weird, that’s already been established).

It’s personally a huge pet peeve of mine when people give up pets because they are having a baby. PETS ARE FOR LIFE!!!!

The only way I can agree with it is if it’s a big, rambunctious dog or a terribly vicious cat who would endanger an infant.

Way to go, k&k!! It’s so great you get to do this. I can’t say that enough. Just for future references though, where did you get all the info on the papers to file to become a rescue and non-profit and all that. I had looked into this a while ago and found absolutely nothing helpful.

True what Sarita said about breed, most people don’t go for that first, specially if they’re adopting. You tend to learn about breeds and so on after you get the rabbit! Glad you’re being specific thou, my local just list everything as new zealand/unknown cross! Even when buns have marked differences! Did the previous owner have any idea as to breed? I’d have investigated during 6 years of having the beautiful boy.

Logo looks great! May I suggest you guys put notice there that site is under development and a “come back soon” invite? Bet it’s gettting heaps of hits today thanks to BB members!

I met Peter tonight, he’s very sweet but does not feel comfortable being held. Made nail trimming a bit difficult-he wouldn’t trance either. He finally cuddled up in the crook of my arm and we did one paw at a time…Guess mom had a baby and didn’t trim nails since-I’ve never seen nails that long!! Poor little guy!

Neutering is definitely going to need to be soon, he’s sweet and doesn’t spray but he humped my leg!!! LOL

He almost looks like a flemish cross in person, but who knows? Apparently he spent three years in a pet store before his owner finally took pity and bought him…

He made the logo himself I’ll let him know he should put a “under construction’ notice on it -that’s a good idea!!
