  Poor little Henri (the little bunny who lives at my stable). I was out this afternoon and noticed he has a sore paw. He won’t put weight on it and it seems hot to the touch. I immediately alerted his owner and she said she would take him to the vet tommorow if he is still hurting. I’m so worried it’s a fracture. He is kept in a big hutch with wire bottom but most of the cage is covered in hay, but some of it is not as the hay gets tossed around.
  
  Of course, I’m worried about the worst possible scenario: a fracture. I’ll be going to the vet with him tommorrow if he goes. Can rabbits injure their legs without fracturing them, like humans? What if it’s a fracture, what does the vet do in the case of a rabbit?
  
  I’m so worried about the little guy. He still has his usual ravenous appettite. I will be going to check on him first thing in the a.m. Is there anything I should do until he goes to the vet?

  I believe because rabbit bones are so delicate, they don’t set them or cast them but I’m not a hundred percent sure.

  Is Henri the one that had a friend at the stable that got to go live with the owner but the owner could not take him too? Sounds more like an infection to me because of the hottness. If it was infected he would limp too. Let us know what happens.

  Yes that is Henri. The rabbit who went to live away from the stable died about a month ago She had a severe case of head tilt and was not eating or responding to treatment so she was euthanized. I was so sad.

  I feel sorry for him too. The other bunny’s owner doesn’t want any more bunnies. Henri’s owner is the family who owns the stable.
  
  I’m always worrying about him. I bring him veggies and treats every time I go to the barn. If it wasn’t for the fact that I’m 90% sure he has Pasteurella he would have come to live with me a long time ago. I take care of him as best as I can though. Half the time it’s me who cleans out his hutch and I brush him when he sheds. I try to think of it as “if they didn’t adopt him, he would have been rabbit meat a long time ago”. I’m glad they rescued him but he deserves more love and care. I do what I can for him because I love him like my own.

  This just makes me so sad. I am wondering if the rabbit got out and the paw was stepped on or slammed in a door. It’s not the best life LPT but you are right, he probably would have been food a long time ago. Glad to hear he still gets to experience some human love from you while he is here with us.

  I’ve seen many bunnies with casts on their legs, so a fracture, depending on it’s severity, can be set and allowed to heal. Hopefully it’s not serious. Poor little Henri…..

  It’s really hard to say. Some rabbits cannot tolerate the pain if they have to pin it. I’ve spoken with my vet about this before and she takes many different things into factor too before she decides to pin or amputate. What type of fracture, what leg, size of the rabbit, etc…
  
  I hope it’s just a simple sprain that can heal with cage rest.

  Yes, Henri had the abscess which was drained and has yet to reoccur.
  
  I went to see him today and his foot is still sore but he is hopping around a bit more and putting a little weight on it, where as yesterday he wouldn’t even come out of his little box. I think his owner is just gonna wait a few days and see. If he was mine, he’d be at the vet, but not everyone is like me. I’ll be checking on him everyday. Hopefully it will be much better tomorrow.
  
  It looked maybe like it was a bit swollen today. If it’s swollen and hot tommorow, would it help to put a cold compress on it for a few minutes?

  Poor baby. I don’t think it would hurt to do a cold compress and it might make him feel better.

  Okay, well that’s what I will do if it still looks swollen tomorrow when I go see him. I fear he may be very disapproving though!!!

  I’m so frustrated.(today is Saturday) He still won’t put weight on it and his owner still doesn’t feel he needs to go to the vet. I’m at my witt’s end and I’m starting to really not be nice about the situation anymore. I’m working at the barn tomorrow and I’m gonna try to get him to let me have a good look at it and if he’s still not putting weight on it by Monday, I’m gonna tell her he needs to see a vet. period. Because it’s unfair to leave him in pain like this and it’s unfair for me to have to deal with this situation with a rabbit I love.

  Well if they are really stubborn, it is considered abuse to not provide vet care for an animal that is in need of it. Not sure if they would be real happy with you telling them that, but it’s the truth. Poor guy, this is awful and unfair for everyone and who knows what kind of pain he’s in.

  I’m so sorry you have to deal with this. It’s just not right at all. That poor bunny deserves more than this. Can you get him out of that place and maybe into a rescue? I hate to hear about people not wanting to see a vet. The longer they wait the worse this will get.

  awe LPT I am glad he has you in his corner. Keep working at them I like the idea of telling them is abuse not to take him to get care from a vet. And that is a true fact as well.

  He’s doing better. Yesterday I spent some time with him and he was hopping around and putting pressure on his foot. He would occasionally hold his little foot up but the fact that he is hopping on it hopefully means it’s feeling better. I’m going to go check on him tonight. Somedays, I go to the stable to see him even if I don’t plan on doing anything with my horse. I just want to make sure he gets veggies and attention everyday.

  Yeh, Puffy Scarlet Rose’s right…It’s an offense to have an animal in your care and not get it vet care…I would wave that around maybe
  
  That’s so nice of you to go everyday and check on him.
