now know why Tucker all of a sudden is a girl!

She’s not the rabbit I was supposed to get..atleast I don’t think.  There was this girl on a local “yard sale” board who said she had to get rid of her rabbit and had to find him a good home.  So, I emailed her and said that I could take him for her.  I asked for a pic and she sent two, and then we went and met her to pick him up.  There was a “rehoming” fee of $70.00 which included his cage, some food, some bedding, etc etc.  Anyway, I now think she was a breeder pretending to be someone who needed to rehome their animal!  I don’t think Tucker is the rabbit who I was supposed to get.  I think she made a mistake and gave me the wrong one.

This is why I think this.. I was looking for pictures of my other animals and I happened upon the pictures that she sent me of Tucker.  They don’t look like her at all..but they look like they could be a sister/brother.

Ok so those are the pictures that she sent.

And those are Tucker.  Now granted that’s after a few months but I doubt she could have changed color THAT much.  Now I am wondering how old Tucker even is????  She said that the rabbit was 6 mos..but since this isn’t even the same rabbit maybe Tucker is alot older???  Now I am freaking out.  Tucker isn’t spayed yet..what if she’s so old that she can’t get spayed anymore?  Or where she’s so old that she could already have cancer or something?   Is there any other way to tell how old a rabbit is?

she’s not too old to get spayed, the cut-off for some vets is 2 years, but many will do it older than that. what does the vet say? they can give an average age sometimes, but it’s not very accurate. i must have missed this completely while i was gone… it is possible for the colors to change. and the pics of tucker don’t quite show the same areas. are there lighter colors behind the ears like in the first pic?

you love her regardless, and i know you wouldn’t trade her in for anything in the world… but if it makes you feel better can you contact this woman and ask for clarification?

She won’t be too old – I would definitely get her to a vet though and get her spayed and make sure that Tucker is a female.

Really it looks like the same rabbit to me – it could be the lighting, the photo, etc…that seems to make the colors different to you.

Oh yes, I absolutely love her and I wouldn’t change having her for anything..I just wonder if that’s how she was a boy lol and now isn’t.  I’ve tried to find her email address many times before though, regarding Tucker.  I can’t find the email address and I can no longer find her on the yard sale page.  I had tried to contact her originally to see if she/he was neutered since I never knew before this site that rabbits even GET neutered and then I looked again when I first thought that she could be a girl.  No luck finding her at all.

There is lighter colors behind the ears but it’s a small concentrated area, it doesn’t come over as far as in those pictures, like you can’t see the lighter color from the side at all on Tucker.  It’s completely covered by her ears when they’re back or down.  And those pictures are supposedly from the night before I got her.  She’s never had brown on her like that.  I never looked at the pictures again after I got her so I didn’t think about it.  But there’s never been anything brown like that on her body regardless of the light.  I can’t imagine what light it’d have to be in for her to be brown like that.

I do currently have my husband calling all the vets that the HRS recommends on their page that are within a few hours from here.  We had originally been waiting for the vet visit for her being spayed but I know I can’t get her spayed until Oct/Nov and I want her to go in and have a check up, find out for sure that she’s a girl but I’ve done some more investigating and I’m 99.9% sure, and also she needs a nail trim, etc.  So, I’m going to make an appt now for all that and then we’ll schedule the spay for October too.  So, I will see if they can tell me her approx. age then too.   Mainly though I just feel so bad because she’s not spayed yet, it was supposed to be last month and then the trip came up and then I kept telling myself that atleast she’d be under one when it was done and now I am not even sure of that.

Digger’s vet wrote down the approximate age on his discharge papers though his age doesn’t much matter to me. I would have adopted him even if he was 8 years old.

My baby bunnies are the same color as their baby pictures but they don’t really look anything like they did when they were super small. I would imagine Tucker is from the same litter as the bunny you were supposed to get, you would have been able to tell if she wasn’t. My 10 week old bunnies are four times the size they were when we brought them home.

This lady sounds more like someone who had a couple of ‘oops” litters…not someone who intentionallly bred rabbits to sell. A breeder also wouldn’t include a cage for $70.

I hope so, it just bugs me when people tell stories that aren’t true.  Would it have killed her to just say that she had an oops litter?  Not that she had to get rid of him because I forget what it was..I think that mom was allergic or something like that.  I honestly think she might be in 4H or something, because I had seen her on there a few months before that with hamsters but never connected it to being the same girl at the time.  Anyway, regardless..I just hope that Tucker is young enough that getting spayed in Nov won’t affect her negatively.  Mike called up a vet and the check up and nail trim will be 53.00 and then the spay will be 203.00 total cost.  So, Mike has two more vets to call..well actually we’re waiting for a call back on one and then he has to call one more but I think that we will most likely go with the first one because we know that area of the town and it’s also where the organic food store is so maybe we could stop there on our trip down for some veggies for Tucker for a two for one trip down   So looks like next Friday will be check up and nail trim and then after our trip I’ll save up through a few pay checks and get her spayed.  And when she gets spayed there’s alot of stores in the area and a mall so it’d be easy for us to spend the day there waiting for her to be done with the spay

Oh and I forgot to add..the reason why I thought that it was a breeder with the cage is because the cage was brand new and so were the bags and the bowl and everything.  It was as if she had JUST put him in there with all the stuff.  If only I had known that I’d have told her to keep the cage because we weren’t going to house her in that anyway since it was super duper tiny and not nearly the size that Tucker needed.

Hrmmm…Sounds like she fed you a hogwash story for sure!! That may just be pics she found of a bunny who looked like her bunny as maybe she didn’t have a camera…? Anyways thankfully Tucker has you now !!!

that’s a good point too. it might have just been a “breed photo”. regardless… and as far as the sex, you know how hard it is to properly sex bunnies.  even breeders can get it wrong sometimes.

Well while it very well may be a “breed photo” she told me that he loved to play with his alligator toy lol even though it didn’t come with him.

Oh well I love Tucker and I’m glad she is who I got anyway   I’ll be so happy after next Friday when I know for sure if she really IS a she!!

I think Tucker is glad that she has us too…considering how much space she has to roam here and that she has kitty kat friends and yummy veggies and toys to play with lol.   She didn’t even have a litter box when she came to us.

Yea..she also said that Tucker loved sitting on her lap while she watched movies on the couch.   I always thought that maybe Tucker didn’t love me that much because I’ve never been able to get her to do that.  But maybe it’s just that THAT bun did like to do that! LOL

I can’t be upset though..I know things like that happen…when I was a kid we got a bunny and it turned out that she was pregnant.  And so she had her babies and my dad took FOREVER to get them out of there.  By the time that he did the bunnies were almost as big as buttercup was.  She was small and I guess she had big babies, because they were only like 3 mos old..which still LONG time..I know that now but I was a kid and my dad apparently didn’t know better.  Anyway, so the bunnies all went to this man who my dad knew for 4H kids…god I don’t want to think about what happened to those buns..but anywho, so the buns left and buttercup was supposed to be left.  I got home from school and went to feed buttercup and I was cleaning under her hutch and run (again..kid..didn’t know anything about proper bunny care apparently) and noticed that she had a penis…which now that I know better I actually think were testicles because I remember thinking that she had two penises LOL yea I was a lame kid..I was I think 10…and I went inside and it turned out that my dad had given buttercup away.  I asked my dad to call and get her back and he said he couldn’t find the guy’s number.  My dad’s a big liar BTW.  I hated my dad around that time for other bunny related reasons that I won’t go into here but…anyway point of story is I know it can be hard if she did have a litter to tell them apart.  What I am thinking maybe happened was that she posted that on the site and then gave everyone that responded one of the buns that were all supposed to be that one rabbit.  Why she’d go to that trouble rather then say “I have a litter”….beats me!

*snort* Imagine for a moment she was a breeder and accidently sold you the doe she intended to use for breeding! She must have been perplexed as to why the “doe” she kept was taking so long to become pregnant! ( Assuming she accidently kept the male.)

Would love to have witnessed her OMG Revelation moment!  Surely if she was a breeder, she would be a bit more savvy!

everything happens for a reason right? maybe you would have ended up with a right terror of a bun if you got the other one and so fate intervened and gave you tucker, i dont believe in god (im an atheist) but i do believe in fate and i believe even if tucker wasnt the one you were going to get first you were still meant to end up with tucker ie. the mistake was meant to happen. I am glad you have tucker and everything is going well, i think the woman probably says about watching movies on her lap to everyone to show they are good tempered and she might send that photo to 100s of people and tell them they love their croc lol

That’s what Mike said too well ..ok he said “maybe the other one would have been an a@@ hole” LOL but same diff right?  Anyway I am so glad we have Tucker she’s like the perfect “first house bunny” because sheesh she’s had too much gassy foods some days and too many treats on other days and she’s just fine every time.  LOL let’s me learn from my mistakes without dire consequences!  And so far the only thing she’s destroyed is the carpet in like 5 parts but atleast they’re parts that are covered by furniture and hey…we needed a new carpet anyway! LOL  Although now we’re just going to get laminate because of her.

I think you’re probably right lol..I keep looking for her name to pop up again with some other bun..I just want to email for a picture and see if she sends me the same one hehehe.

And if she WAS the doe they intended to breed well then I guess I did rescue her in my own way lol because she’s much better off here with us in her pampered castle.

yeah, you could always put an add up yourself if you really would like to know ‘looking for lady who sold me a rabbit in whatever month, enquiring for baby photos’ and just say your computer failed and you lost the baby pics and u wonder does she still have any?
