› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › How high can your bunny jump?
After making several determined efforts to jump over our 8ft garden wall, Layla actually seems to be jumping higher. She’s also perfected the method of landing with all four paws on the wall so she can push back to her original position, thereby allowing her to begin again without having to walk back to her ‘run up’ position.
I’m starting to suspect that she’s actually escaping her pen by jumping out of it. It’s 4ft high but after seeing her garden wall attempts I’m pretty sure it’s a no brainer for her.
That also might be how she gets onto the TV. It’s really stumped me for a while but I think she just jumps up. How high can your bunny jump? They can’t get onto tables or anything can they? Charlie has always been a bit scared of heights so he doesn’t generally get up too high but Layla doesn’t have this problem.
Hey Cassi
Are you sure she jumps 4 ft? that’s pretty high for one so young. Does she have cardboard box or something in the cage she gets on first, then jumps from there?
Anyway – Jersey has no probs jumping 2-2 1/2 ft – as far as I know. She’s 2.5 kgs.
Boston can effortlessly jump onto the couch….I’m not sure how much higher she can go though…
to be honest im not sure but BB did show a video of bunnys doing show jumping, and alot of those fences are HIGH as far as i know hopscotch can jump over a gate which comes to my waist (and im almost 6ft tall) so pretty high! lol
Shadow scales his 3 foot high baby gate by running and flinging himself on it. He gets traction from the wires and uses them to get over the top. He is the master of finding things to jump on and using them to get to the next level. Back of sofa, to the stereo cabinet to hutch and the fruit bowl. Chair to desk to window sill. That is why we don’t let him have free range when we are not home.
Mead can jump onto the bed and couch easily, so about 2-3 feet there. we have a baby gate that is 24 inches high and she’s never jumped over it. when we had a NIC enclosure for her (28 inches) she never jumped over it. Max is such a scaredy bun that he won’t even jump on the bed or couches. he does thrilling vaulting binkies tho. he flings himself into a binky that is about 2-3 feet high at its peak. it’s an amazing thing to see. i think you’re going to need some serious bunny-proofing and supervision with that one.
over 3 feet
i agree, i think you are going to have to seriously bunny proof
We don’t give Boston free range either when we’re not home, Bunzai. She recently discovered we have plants and must think they are basil or something cuz she will jump on/over anything to get to them and eat them!
Rupert has a crooked leg and can get onto our couches…Kahlua is a little afraid of heights and Chuck of course doesn’t jump, but Holy man could Kokanee jump. She could figure out how to get on any surface no matter the height and could leap any barrier I made.
You should get some raisins and a clicker and put thoses skills to use! Teach her to jump on command-maybe you have an athelete!!!
^^^K&K might be onto something. maybe if you reward “good jumping” she will phase out the naughty jumping…
Jerseygirl, I have to measure it hehehe being an aussie I don’t do ft & inches that accurately.
You know I bet the little snot is finding traction on the puppy pen! The gate part of it has a number of places she could put her little paws. I’ve seen dogs do it but I never thought a bunny could do it Bunzai but…
Beka, I really want to teach her show jumping cause Charlie will jump over hurdles but not after 30cm, that’s his jumping limit. After that he just goes around them. I think she’d be great but I have to wait until she trusts me enough & is calm enough and then I’ll tire her out everyday so she’s a behaved bunny!
Cotton can jump and climb over a 42 inch high xpen. Til I let him have the run of the living room.
HE does big happy jumps way into the air a foot higher than the couch and lands on the couch. I love his happy jumps. And his spins too.
Oooh, that reminds me! Did you ever get taht video of Charlie back up. I think you had one when you first came here to BB(???)
Yeah, I’m not so good with ft and inches either so I keep running off to get tape measure to get idea of what everyone is talking about! Guess we’re the minority here so generally I try use inches, ft, lbs and miles here too!
What system do you guys use? Metric? We’re metric in Canada too but I know feet and inches because that’s what they taught in school…
The elusive video, you know I have an essay due on Friday so i’ll prob put it up tonight – procrastination is my friend.
We do metric in Oz K&K as well so atleast we’re not too alone here.
Sound like some one has an agility champ on their hands!!!
Maryann can make it over a 40″ X-pen from a stationary jump.
Wow, thats high! Maryann must be a demon to try and contain. You know after everything you’ve told us about her, it’s seems so appropriate that she has such a human name.
Jerseygrl I checked – it’s 2ft6ish inches so I’m obviously looking for something taller now, the little sneak.
maybe you could just put wire over the top of it? you know like that sort of material mesh?
To keep the buns in their pen, I just took and old sheet and clipped it onto the top.
I also found out that rabbits apparently know about depth as if I accordion the x-pen to block off the doorway, Maryann won’t try to jump over it. She seems to know that although she could make the height, she wouldn’t make it over the depth of the accordion.
They’re too clever for us, bunnies taking over the world! I’ll wander out and buy pegs today to keep her in. She seems to be able to get out fine but not back in so I’ve had to put a litterbox, some hay and a bowl of water out incase she escapes then can’t get back to her daily necessities. Gotta love them ![]()
Edited: Gosh I need to improve my spelling! Without spell check I’m a bit lost…computer generation hey.
You just gotta love that the buns are naughty…so what do us bun slaves do?? Accomodate for the naughtiness!!! (hence the litter box outside)!!! haha!
hehe so true! instead of finding how to not let them do it we go well we better do this just incase ahh we are true bunny slaves
