  okay, so that you can understand my outher paranoia with what I feed my baby rabbit… he isn’t my first one, the last one lasted about 3 days before getting severe constipation from his food which contained seeds and other elements which the pet store dude told me his little bunny stomac was to young for ….and well… he eventually died from complications so they gave us a new rabbit and new food (because it was one of their retarded employees who said we could feed the food to our rabbit)
  
  anywaaaay. We’re trying to train him into better habbits, such as, eating his cardboard house instead of our computer components and doing his buisness in his litter. So, what can we feed a 10 week old rabbit that won’t make him sick on a daily basis? Ya know, oh good! you pooed in your litter, here’s a treat. I was thinking maybe there was a fresh vedgie or fruit we could give him? He only eats pellet and hay for now…as I said, I’m to scared to give him anything else. please help?
  
  I know he likes apples because I gave him a small piece of apple and he went crazy over it, but I just haven’t dared to give him more.

  bunnies don’t train like dogs do. they love treats (and food!), but it’s harder to train them with food. as far as chewing, your first step is bunnyproofing. littertraining can be accomplished by putting hay in the litterbox, picking up stray poos, and redirecting the bunny when he lifts his tail to pee. the most important thing is neutering at 3-4 months. this will help with these behaviors as well. check out the bunny info section at the top of the page for all kinds of help with littertraining and bunnyproofing.
  
  10 weeks is still young to be introducing treats, and even when you do, they must be very very limited. a tiny amount only 3 times a week. def. not enough for training the way you are thinking. some good treats are matchstick carrots (cut into tiny pices), raisins (these can also be cut into halves or thirds), or a tiny sliver of apple or grape.
  
  it is possible for you to start slowly introducing veggies.

  Well, I’d love to give him veggie, but I’m a bit lost on what to give him. I know he should have illimited hay, but what kind of quantety of pellets should he have? And how much veggiie and what kind of veggie most importantly. I’ve some suggestion, like roman letuce, and absolutely no icebirg… but I’d just like someone with an accual bunny to tell me what’s best.
  
  As for the training, I’m already doing all the things suggested for the litter training, the pee is fine, it’s only the pooping that he tends to do next to his litter box really, so I though extras encouragement might help, but if he’s to yound then I’ll just percever with the other ricks. I’m trying to bunny proff the house as best as I can to, he hasn’t done mcuh damange, but for some reason he seems to be totaly drawn to anything he should be eating, trouble is like a magnet for him lol

  and I don’t think I can neuter him, my bf doesn’t want to deprive him of his bunny parts. I tryed convincing him, saying it lowers cancer risk and all that, but he just won’t have it… I gess it’s males sticking up for males? Anyhow, there’s no convincing him, he thinks spaying an animal just so that he becomes more “conviniant” is a horrible selfish sin… and that’s hard to argu against.

  Uh, nothing is working for the bunny boys as far as litter training goes. They poop EVERYWHERE in their cage. I have to shop vac it every single night! I was putting the poop in their box but it was getting full that way…lol
  
  I have their hay and their food bowl in the box. It seems like they just don’t know they’re going to poop yet. It’s like it just falls right out of them. They’re only going on 10 weeks old, is this still kind of young for them to be able to “get it”?

  that’s EXACLY my story. though he does do part of his pooping in his box… but he his getting a bit better if it can make you feel better.

  many buns don’t “get it” until after they are neutered.

  Someone should tell Digger. He’s doing better but he’s still marking with poop. I know he knows what to do because all of the pee goes in the box.

  the poop marking might be territorial tho also. since there are other bunnies around. are the poops in piles or kind of strewn about?

  Like I said, I did my homeworks about neutering, my bf just won’t hear reason, but it’s not so bad, we’re not planning on having a second rabbit so aside from the difficulties litter training him, we won’t have to much trouble.

  is neutering something that you need his permission to do? if you know it’s the right thing, can you just “put your foot down” and go ahead and do it when the time comes? i’m glad that you realize the importance. if there’s anything else you have questions about, please ask!

  I totally feel for you! when I first got lil Honey, I was very uneducated on the reasons to spay/neuter a bun. Neither of my buns are fixed, but after 4 days of being a part of this forum, I have been searching for a bunny vet. The last vet I took Honey to wanted 215$ to do her spay. I told my boyfriend, and he freaked out on me for even bringing it up. It had nothing to do with the buns themselves, he loves them! He just doesn’t understand, and it took a while for me to explain the reasonings to him and for him to support me. When you are working with limited funds– 100-200$ IS a LOTTTTT of money– that is groceries for 2 months for us!
  
  However, we figure if each month we put away 50$.. we should have enough to spay Honey soon, and get little Kip neutered when the time comes.
  
  Hang in there. Don’t feel like a horrible person for worrying about the money-end of things. But as everyone posted already– It IS a necessity to get your bun fixed. It will really help you, and your bun, in the long run.

  @Kokaneeandkahlua well, I’ve still got 3 or 4 month of nagging him, so who knows, I might convince him in the long run… I think my tactic will probably be; wouldn’t you want him to have a cute bunny friend :p
  
  @Beka unfortunately..it is…. it’s our rabbit…but must importantly it’s our rabbit which he payed intirely for, cage, rabbit and accessories.
  
  @bunnyballet; it’s not money…though I didn’t know it costed that much, it’s just he sais it’s unatural and unhuman to alter the poor creature like that.
