i am out of hay.  last time i was at the vet i wanted to get two bags of hay but they only had one… so i ran out yesterday.

i called the vet this morning and they said they are NO LONGER CARRYING OXBOW!!!!!!!

shoot!  so i went to the petstore today to buy a bag of (mediocre) hay until i can figure out if i’m going to order online, or what to do to get my Oxbow.

i walk in the store, go to the “small critter” aisle and i see a familiar prairie dog, guinea pig and bunny looking at me from the shelf.

        they HAD OXBOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i ran to the nearest sales associate and i told her that it is awesome that they are now carrying Oxbow, and that it is one of the best foods available.  hopefully she will pass the praise onto her superiors.

i am so happy, (and shocked) that a chain petstore is carrying it now.

they also had the pellets for pigs and rats, and they had papaya tablets and critter berries, as well as brome and orchard hays.

There have been some Oxbow sightings at PetsMarts lately too. I wonder if Oxbow has managed to swing some kind of new distribution deal or something.

petsmart too? this store was not petsmart. maybe… it would increase business, and it’d be great for people to start moving away from the junk food.

I hope so, because I’ve never used Oxbow Hay– I’ve always bought Animal Planet brand Timothy Hay from Target, and am anxious to get some.

I was going to order online, but shipping was the same price as my two bags of hay!

So I’m gonna try petsmart and petco later tomorrow.

The changes at Petsmart are spreading like wildfire.  Yes I went yesterday and saw the same. And  Brome hay Cotton’s favorite hay. At last at last and good foods there too oh wow. Hurrah for Oxbow.

I noticed that now that PetSmart is carrying the Oxbow hay, it’s always friggin sold out! Guess I’m not the only critter freak in SoCal! I told an associate how great it was that they were carrying the stuff now and she was like “If you would have mentioned it to the manager, we probably would have ordered it a lot sooner!” Haha. Oh well. It’s expensive, but Frankie LOVES it. He’s been on a hay craze since I brought home the latest bag. It’s like timothy hay laced with bunny crack or something!

I hear you guys talking about brome hay alot. Can anyone explain to me why it’s so fantastic? We have someone here who is selling bales (not mini-bales) for $10. I was wondering if it’s nutritional content is such that maybe I could tempt Mimzy’s fickle palette with it.

And can anyone also explain to me what is so wonderful about Oxbow? I don’t see it here, and would probably have to order it online, but before I do, I’d like a testimonial.

the Oxbow just smells so yummy to me and since i’ve switched over i’ve noticed that they eat so much more. it just looks and feels like better quality. more longer strands too, which is better as far as fiber i believe. the inexpensive brands (sunseed, etc.) are more flaky.

It’s called “Western Timothy Hay.” I don’t know if all the hay is grown “western” or if that’s what the difference is. I noticed it does seem to be greener than most other timothy hays. Maybe it’s just shipped fresher and spends less time in a factory or warehouse. *shrug*

What gripes me is, Mimzy has tried both the Kaytee brand of timothy, their orchard grass, the King brand of timothy and the BinkyBunny timothy; the result being that even though the Binky is by far the nicest hay I’ve ever seen, he would ratehr choke down the lousy Kaytee brand, which is full of brown stems and stick like pieces…just throws me for a loop!
I want to find him one that appears healthy and green, and yet he will actually eat it. It does no good to him sitting on the floor of his hutch.

Petsmart is also selling a whole bunch of new fun toys from the Ware Manufacturing compnay. Radar and Jo love that stuff. I noticed the oxbow and the lack of yogurt drops. I think we may be getting a little present from corporate america.

I keep hoping my petsmart will start carrying the papaya tablets and critter berries…so far no luck!  They also don’t have the bunny pellets there yet but they do have the guinea pig and rat pellets.

I haven’t tried the hay yet since I’ve actually not had a problem with kaytee brand, it’s always lots of HUGE strands and not much brown at all..no twiggy like pieces or anything..maybe I’m just getting lucky with good batches?  However; next time I go to petsmart I’m going to get some Brome or Orchard hay to add some variety and I’m going to pick up the oxbow to see what all the fuss is about

our petsmart has oxbow timothy hay, orchard grass, botanical hay, and alfalfa hay. the timothy hay comes in much larger bags than the rest. they also are selling bunny basics T, chinchilla deluxe, and cavy cuisine foods from oxbow. they havent started selling papaya tablets yet though and the oxbow hay is MUCH better quality than sunseed. smells amazing and is longer stems and pepper devours it
