Ive had my bunny for about 2 months now and he is about 5 months old =)

When i got him he was badly underweight and bullied

I haven’t had any problems getting his weight up as he loves his food and he has started to get out of his nervous shell and has fun pinging around the room Lol =)

But he has only had one testicle drop .. will this cause him any problems as the other testicle droped about a month ago ??

Please get back asap with any info that will help

P.s he is my first bunny so im verry parinoid lol

Hi montyforever, and welcome to BinkyBunny!

There are several possibilities here.  One is that one testicle has descended and the other is taking its time.  They do not necessarily drop at the same time, the other one could come in soon.  Also, bunnies can sort of “hide” them, and maybe both have descended and you are only seeing one.  There is also a slight possibility that it will never descend, and your bunny is a cryptorchid.  In that case, the testicle is somewhere in the abdominal cavity, but it can still produce viable sperm and impregnate a female.  Are you planning on having this bunny neutered?  If so, in case he is a cryptorchid, the surgery is more complicated, and requires opening up the abdomen to remove the undescended testicle.

Only a vet would know for sure what is going on here, but none of these conditions is life threatening.  His neuter will just be a little more complicated.

I was going to get him neutered but he seems pretty happy the way he is and i dont have any other bunnies .. plus if i did get a doe i would definatly have her spayed because of all the cancer problems =D

Plus im getting a horse soon so anything that is not nessicarry im not going to get done =D

And my vet has also said he is a lovely little bun with a amazingly calm and sweet temperament for a boy

                  Thanks for the info

I don’t understand what getting a horse has to do with getting your bunny neutered?

There are many reasons for neutering…I just got mine neutered not only because it will keep him healthy, happy, and add years to his life…but also because he pees on EVERYTHING. He can pee for distance. He’s not too terribly hormonal but I want to introduce him to my other bunnies and I can’t do that if he’s got all that natural testosterone.

But…since you don’t have any other rabbits that last part doesn’t really apply to you.

Neutering will curb aggression, keep him from marking, and prevent testicular and mammary cancer.

If you aren’t doing the surgery because you want all of your extra money to go to the horse…how are you going to provide vet care if he ever gets sick? If he suffers from stasis or develops head tilt or any of the many tragic ailments that plague bunnies? And what happens if you’re short on cash and you have to choose between fresh greens and hay for the bunny and feed for the horse?

Yes, you should definitely neuter anyways It’s the best thing for him, physically and mentally

When are you getting a horse? You’ll have to tell us all about him-alot of us are horse people on here -me included!

Cute bunny and I love his pink cage Welcome here!

Sorry i can see why that sounded bad !

I meant that with getting my horse im a bit short on cash .. but i have a emergancy pot for all my bunnys needs and if its necisary i will get him neutered he was here first so he gets put first .. i meant that i was going to get him neutered the moment he was old enough but now im going to leave it and see how it goes

My vet is completly happy with this and understands

I will always put my bunny first as he is like a baby to me !

                        Han x

                              monty,

There is no medical reason to get your bunny neutered. Unlike females, an unaltered male isn’t more prone to diseases. However, neutering does remove a massive amount of hormones which can help in keeping him more ‘behaved’. Things may change in the near future with him. However, if he seems happy and you’re happy with him, there is no need for the surgery.

With that said, I would still bring him in and get him neutered. Dwarfs (dutch or otherwise) tend to have a bit of a napoleon complex and they become much more aggressive and dominant after going through puberty.

I was told hes been throught puberty already at about 4 months aparently this is normal for dutch buns ?
He does growl if you ignore him or in play but he never bites or kicks even when little kids are holding him.
                                Although ..
He can be very protective of me lol because one time my friend was tiggling me and i was screaming he ran up to her and started biting and trying to rip her trousers and ever since if she comes round i have to put him in his cage because he wont let her get near me but that is the only bad behaviour i get !

Oh and my name is Han lol .. Monty is my ponies name

bunny puberty/adolescence can last up to a year. neutering is a very simple procedure, and i recommend it. like was said above, it will help with hormone related behavior, spraying urine, aggression, and territorialness. and in the future you could possibly get a friend for him. another thing, once bad behaviors set in, it is sometimes harder to reverse them. so he might not spray urine *right now*, but he might start later… at which time he may never stop doing it. (does that make sense?)

i understand it’s easy enough to clean up, but why should you have to put up with it, ya know? there is a solution. ;o)

Just to give my 10 cents or pence on neutering….

I too went back & forth w/ the neuter.  Leo had none of the male bunny issues:  he didn’t distance pee or spray, & was/is gentle as a lamb.  The only issue was he had his humping periods (very seldom) w/ his mate (spayed).  So that was my main motivator, though my vet did state that he won’t be prone to testicular cancer and males still are prone to mammary tumors.  Estrogen tends to be the biggest culprit for mammary tumors, but even males produce hormones that can implicate these tumors.  So I think the thought here is just….at some point…neuter.  It sounds like that’s your plan anyway.

Most neuter postponments go on the back burner indefinately b/c, let’s face it…no one has any extra money.  So just keep it mind for your future pot.  PS.  He’s adorable.  My male cat LOVES pink!  He only uses the pink bed or blanket.  DH bought him a pink shirt and he purred his fool head off…..some may say that pet’s don’t recognize colors…but….IDK
