So I have called around and the vet I used for my cats gave me a quote of $175. He said he doesnt do check ups only fixes them to me this was a red flag and have decided no for two reason number one almost 200 bucks to fix Oreo hubby is losing it as the dog is only 100 to have fixed.

Can someone recomend a vet for me I am in Brampton Ontario and I dont drive so it would need to be close to me, and I need one that is a fair price.

        Thanks Guys

Here is a list from the House Rabbit Society on vets in Ontario.  Sorry that I don’t know where you are in Ontario as us Yanks don’t know much about Canada.  We don’t pay too much attention – at least until we run out of trees…

            LOL Markus!! ^^

Sounds like you made the right call on that vet. Speutering can be dangerous if they don’t know what they are doing!! They should be doing a checkup before the speuter anyways let alone yearly at least!!

Let us know if that list doesn’t help, we do have some members from Ontario who could help too!

If you’d like help screening your vet we can also give you some trick questions (for example, ask if they require fasting of the rabbit before surgery-if yes, red flag-don’t go there-not only unnecessary but dangerous! and you’d be surprised how many vets I found answered incorrectly!)

Anyways keep us posted and good luck!

              ditto that LOL markus!!

You might want to try to get in touch with a local rescue group – often if there is someone that is trying to get their rabbit fixed but can’t find transportation they are eager to help out. I saw that there is a group at http://www.ontariorabbits.org – see if you can email someone there. At the rescue I worked with volunteers would go to people’s houses to transport bunnies for neuters, spays or any other procedures. They would even help with cost if the person did not have the means to pay.

i agree, i dont think that vet is very good at all. Have a look around, it may be cheaper to take a train or whatever do somewhere than to get them done close by although that is more stress for bunny so just something to think of. Keep us posted

welcome here. i agree that the vet does not sound like a very good one. don’t forget that you will need a vet for other things like check-ups and emergencies too, beyond just altering. did you just get this bunny? your sig line says Oreo (boy or girl?) is 2.5 years old… has he/she seen a vet at all in that time? if he/she is from a rescue, i’d contact them and find out who they go to.
