You’d think that after a pen cleaning and fresh greens being put down, that a bunny would love nothing more than being left alone to munch his meal.
Not Fiver.
We spent most of the morning acquainting him further with his run of the bed, which is right next to his night pen. He’s still squeamish about being carried, so the journey back out to the xpen has been attempted, but unsuccesful, lately.
Since this guy’s so little, he really doesn’t make much work here. He knows best to ease himself out to familiar territory first, will still stop at my hand when I feel he’s getting too close to the edge, or if he’s exploring somewhere I deem off limits. He is not flinching as much when I touch him and even my sneezes are not setting him off like a rocket anymore. (Definitely the hay, btw. The Timmy I’ve gotten lately is very crumbly and the dust from it just flies everywhere.)
If any of you have had a chance to watch the vidoe clip that digxmexnow (Rachel) linked to in Behavior (Happiest most hyper bunny ever) you will have an idea of how our exercise time went today.
After feeding him, as I said earlier, he decided instead to note that the front door of the pen was still shut and made very pointed looks at me that indicated he wanted it open so he could explore again today. Being the good bunny slave I am, I obliged him.
When he’d finished a cursory mapping of the bed area, he began doing those little side hops. At first I thought he was startling again, as he tends to flick his ears before a good hop. Now I see, it’s actually the happy head shake.
Then we got to helicopter jumps where he’d spin almost all the way around. I almost couldn’t breathe for laughing.
The cat was on the floor, stunned. Even with the other two, she hasn’t seen acroabatics like this. 0_o
Then the thing that got to me the most…he paused in front of the pen door and I heard what I swear sounded like a contented little sigh. It is not the humming noise I used to hear from Mimzy. It was not a squeak. It was a SIGH. He’d just let out this happy little noise (yes, I’m sure it came from his mouth end) and it made me doubletake because I knew it came from him, but couldn’t believe it came from him.
Has anyone ever heard a bunny sigh? It is the sweetest little noise! And then he proceeded to hop around and investigate some more, but I tell you, that was just one of those “Things That Make You Go Hmmm…”
I though the only noises bunnies made were grunting, growling, a squealing noise if they are hurt (or screaming), or the tooth purr when they are happy. Oh, and the honking. But I wouldn’t classify this as a honk.
It made me happy to see him so happy. He goes in for his well-bunny check tomorrow afternoon. I’m going to have the doc check his teeth and maybe take his toenails down a scooch more if we can get him to hold still long enough and not stress him, and ensure his gender and neuter.
Anything else you guys think I should ask the vet?
