        Hi everyone,

My name is Renee.  I think one or two of you might remember me from another forum, a few years ago!    I have a 4-year old Holland Lop, Snickers, and I’m most likely getting a new bunny tomorrow!  Snickers is a girl, and this new bunny is a four-month old buck.

I’m writing because I need a little refresher course on caring for a bunny of this age.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

        Renee

Edit:  Also, I don’t have any of my favorite “bunny facts/info sites anymore.    Can anyone tell me the popular, good ones?

          WELCOME!!!

http://www.rabbit.org is one of my favorites. Check out the diet section there as they will be a great help with young bunnies and as they progress.
It will include the type of hay, pellets and when to introduce greens as well.

A young bunny’s digestive systems is very sensitive so whereever you get him from, get the food they were giving too, and if you want to change to a healthier mix, be sure mix slowly over a months time until the old has been weaned out.

You want to be sure you don’t allow too much freedom too fast during littertraining. Hopefully, you have a pen so you can allow him exercise but limit his freedom. Otherwise he may “claim” the whole place. You will be getting him right at the challenging age as his hormones may start raging, so Snickers might be in for some unwanted action. Be careful with this, and if this happens, and she’s not havin’ it, then you may need to wait until he’s neutered before you try and bond them.

          Can’t wait to see him.

Show us pictures when you get a chance.

Hampton??    Oh, yes, I remember some of what you say now.  Very good advice, thank you so much!!  I’m so glad I wrote on this forum.

              Hi! Welcome to Binky Bunny

How exciting to get a new bunny! This site is pretty much my one-stop shop to get all the bunny info that I need, that or I get information from my local rabbit sanctuary (www.ntrs.org). I’d say that litter-training will probably one of the first challenges, and sometimes that can be pretty difficult if the bunny is not yet neutered, so have a bit of patience with the new boy in this area. Also with diet as BB mentioned, try to change his diet slowly to the baby bunny recommended diet with healthy pellets such as Oxbow pellets, and plenty of hay.

I hope to see photos soon!

We have him home, and the poor little guy is so scared.  The 4-H girl we got him from said she litter trains her bunnies, but so far he is not using his litter box.  Which I kind of anticipated.  So we will put his poops in there, and hopefully he will get it.

The girl was feeding him Blue Seal, but we are using Oxbow with Snickers, so we’re mixing them for now.

Btw, we named him Murray, and hopefully I will get a picture up tomorrow!

                Thanks so much!  ~Renee

Renee – Yes! welcome here. Hope you’ll stick around. This is Hampton! For the others that are like “huh?”. Before I started my BinkyBunny, I used to be a volunteer community leader for years on iVillage.com Rabbit board and Hampton was my user name there.

I actuallymay still have pictures of Snickers from when I made the album for iVillage.

I’d love to see updated ones.
