I have had my Bugsy in this cage with Carefresh Pet bedding from petco and since it is so expensive I bought her this really soft Pine bedding. I was useing small animal critter litterbut that to was way to much money. So to replace that I got this bag of “corn cob” which says it could be used as either bedding or litter. Unfortunetly its not absorbant at all. I read alot of articles saying that you cant use cat litter for moneys because its to dusty and can harm their respiratory system. Is there any cat litter that can be used that wont  harm my bugsy?

          Hi Apryl,

You can use any cat litter that is not clumping and is made from organic material.  So this includes Feline Pine, Cat Country, Yesterday’s News.  Corn cob litter is not supposed to be good for bunnies as it can cause digestive problems if they eat it.  Pine shaving bedding is bad for bunnies too, it can cause respiratory problems, so try to stay away from pine unless it is pelleted.  A good choice if you are looking for a cheap alternative is wood stove pellets or barn floor litter made from compressed saw dust.  The wood stove pellets must be 100% wood, with no accelerants or other hydrocarbons added.  The package should say 100% wood.  The stove pellets can be found in hardware stores, usually as the weather cools.  The barn stall litters are usually found in either feed stores for horses or places like Tractor Supply.  I use something called “Barn Dry”, but I think there are many brands to choose from.

Corn cob is no good; It can be toxic if ingested and can cause blockages!! No cat litter either!!

Try yesterday’s news, you can use the cat version-as long as it’s non scented. The ONLY kinds of cat litter you can use are yesterdays news and feline pine. Everything else can be fatal if they use it!!

Is your bunny living in litter or do you have the litter in a litter box? Bunnies don’t need their living space to be covered in litter. It will confuse them and they won’t know they’re supposed to us the box.

the litter box is on the corner of the cage thats the only place i put the litter in. i jus completly cleaned out her cage now im so worried. i read on some other  website that they are okay to have corn cob litter and soft pine shavings thats only reason i got it. also on the bag it says its safe to.

not sure what i will do now i guess ill keep looking for stores around here. the only ones here are petco and petsmart and its so expensive

Have you tried Walmart? When I ran out (because I didn’t pay attention) it was like 11pm when I was cleaning his cage, it was the only place open near me. I got a bag of Carefresh. I cannot remember the price because it was a few weeks ago. I don’t reccomend their food or treats. I personally think the store’s full of cheap toxic material but they did have bunbun litter when I was in need!

Don’t worry-we’ve all made mistakes like that-its because they sell these darn things that aren’t healthy or safe and market them as being so!!

Just keep an eye on your bun and if he’s still pooping and eating tomorrow I’d say your in the clear!
