        Hi All,

I recently moved to my own apartment and have been living there for about 2 months.  My 3 buns LOVE it!  They happy hop all over the place every night.  I am concerned, however, because within the last 2 weeks all three have started shedding like crazy.  I’ve had them for almost 4 years and have never experienced this amount of simultaneous shedding.

I’m wondering if it may be because my air conditioner sucks (and I have had maintenace out 3 times to fix it but they are extremley incompetent, therefore the problem never actually gets fixed)  It never exceeds 80-85 degrees and is usually around 75 when I’m there to babysit the A/C (plus whenever I leave I set a box fan up in the doorway to thier bunny room).  Could this be causing them to shed so much?  There are no bald spots on any of them, I’m just worried that they are in discomfort.  Well, acutally Peanut my youngest has a patch on the top of her back that used to be normal, long bunny fur but now all the hair has shed right down to the short  under fur (? if that’s what it’s called, lol).

I don’t know what to think, I may just be being an overly conscerned bunny slave.  It is about time for them to be shedding anyway.

I guess in different parts of the country and world shedding is at different times.  Edson went thru a major shedding in May.  It was awful for one bun so I can imagine what it would be like for more.  I brushed him daily during that time and vacuumed daily (I still do that).  It lasted way longer than I thought – about a month.  Hang in there.  It should subside…eventually.

my two arent shedding at the moment mine was more around may like edson however with 3 buns it is very likely to be alot of furr (more than you may imagine can come from 3 tiny buns, im sure its nothing to worry about just make sure you brush them often

Bunnies go through four molts a year, two major and two smaller. Sometimes you’ll even find bare spots when going through a major molt. AND you’ll likely eat a ton of hay, have some in your eyes, pour a fresh glass of juice and find hair in there two seconds later xD

It depends on the time of the year, but indoor rabbits are probably harder to predict. Rupert and Kahlua are done, Chuck is coating our apartment in orange fuzz at the moment. I hate to say it but can’t wait for winter!

Mine are going through a big shed as well, and I think that the hotter temperature could probably have caused a bigger shed than normal. I think the only concern would be that they ingest too much fur because they are shedding so much, you can help prevent this by giving them regular brushings until the extreme shedding slows down. Good luck!

I’ve had my bun, Tokie, for about three years now. Before, I rarely noticed that he molted. But a few months ago, he was shedding like he was gonna go bald!! So I guess it’s different every time.

Leo is almost done w/ THE WORST MOLT I’ve ever dealt w/ w/ him b/f.  He’s exploding cigar lionhead.  I’ve been plucking him b/c brushing has not been helping him at all.  I’m almost done w/ the pluck.  At this point he has a major “dustruffle” around the bottom of him.  I had to “step away from the bunny” b/c I over plucked a spot on his butt.  DH put a bunny pluck ban on me.  I’ve been increasing their intake of papaya tabs.  I have to force Leo to eat his hay in the first place, so I’ve been really pushing papaya/pineapple on him.  Poor man, he hates the papaya tabs, so I had to get some non-sugared dried fruit for him.  Jessica eats the papaya tabs, but being a pig, oves to steal Mr. Leo’s dried fruit.  It’s been a bit crazy

What can I say….it took me forever to condition him to hay and veggies.  I don’t know why he won’t eat a papaya tab?  I got him to eat one b/c he thought I was trying to give him a raisin, he got totally tricked.  I haven’t been able to get away w/ that since.  I wonder if it may be b/c he doesn’t really like hard things due to his teeth.  Picky Fricken’ Bun!

I found that putting a couple in their food dish worked..They’d find it on their own, try it then love it

If there is changes in temp in your new place, then yes that can cause this, but right now many bunnies are molting regardless, so you could be dealing with a double whammy.
