I want to get Jersey drinking more water.  She’s not a huge drinker normally but it seem she’s hardly drinking any lately .  It doesn’t seem to be affecting her too badly but I don’t want things to suddenly go down hill.  She’s always drunk from a crock and never took to a sipper bottle.  I do have one and may use if I thought it’d do any good.

Her poop is farily norm, some seem smaller but I’ll look again later and they’re ok(???) Her urine is darkish orange colour.  I’ve been giving her lots of wet romaine lettuce so I know she’s getting hydrated.

It is winter here but we keep the house quite warm, especially in the evenings.  Jersey spends much time in these warm rooms and seems comfortable but she must need more fluids!    I know I often get more dehydrated in wintertime from exposure to all the heaters everywhere.

Veggies, particularly lettuces, are mostly water.  It is possible that she is getting sufficient water that way.  You can wash the veggies and leave them wet to give her even more fluid.  I often give my guys a crock filled with ice and water, they seem to enjoy the coolness of the water.  Orange colored pee is normal, their pee varies from yellow to almost brown.  As long as she is continuing to pee, she should be fine.

            Ditto Osprey

You could add a small amount of apple juice to the water to flavour it to encourage drinking-but likely she’s drinking what she needs

Okay, no worries. I’ve been thinking to flavour the water but my luck she’ll expect it always! I actually thought the water was too chilly for her but they cope well in the cold don’t they. I’ve been leaving her in the warmer part of the house overnight because I feel cruel putting her out in her cold room.  Our o/night temps prob nothing compared to northern hemi but I feel the cold so I just assume she does.

Man! That’s like an alarmingly COLD summer day here!!! Anything below 85*F..

And people tend to think that just because you live in Florida means your winters are mild…pah! Try 25*F-40*F as an average! We have extreames here…it stinks.

                            Binkles,
I’m in South Florida, ie. Palm Beach County, and just an hour’s drive south to Miami is another 5 degrees warmer on most days.
If I go to Orlando, it gets temps that you’ve just described. But right here, in winter it almost never goes below 50s or 60s at night.

I have noticed that during summer when parts of the US get temps in the 100+ range, it never gets higher here than 95. Which is really, really hot. The humidity makes it a sauna right now. (I”m flying to Massachusetts for the weekend and have no idea if I’ll be too warm or too cold. Bringing layers. Family wedding – yippee!)

hahah k&k I agree! What I wouldn’t give for temperatures like that in winter!! Not that I mind going out in -32 C air with an added wind chill factor of -20 something.. no it’s fine.. really….. *goes to book a flight to Australia and start packing*

oh p.s. jersey hahah I suck at the conversions as well.. we’re in celcius here and I had to go use an online converter. I also can’t do Km – Miles very well either!

i put in a few table spoons of apple juice and dilute it with a full water bottle. not too much apple juice, just enough to sweeten up the water an dencourage her to drink when we’re having really hots days. i did this after her spay to make sure she got plenty of water.

I had to work hard to get my buns on decent water regimens. Even though we keep the house temp pretty constant, we just have such crummy humidity here…it’s either feast or famine.
I use the many veggies technique. It seems to work best for mine. Plus I make sure that water bottles are properly filled and fresh as often as possible, even if it means throwing out one I just filled that morning. My bunnies seem to like their water freshly poured. :-/

Plus they tend to lick the ‘sweat’ off their freeze bottles too. Mimzy is very good about taking in adequate amounts, but Pip is a bit finicky. It’s a juggling act with her.
