Hey all, i searched the forums but i didnt really find anything specific to what i am asking about.

Pepper is still eating normal and drinking like normal, but his poops are different. I didnt switch brands of hay or food, but his poops used to be very hard and very dry, but now they are still hard and round, but the seem damper than normal. not squishy at all and not runny just damp. and they are darker than normal. is this something to be worried about? we just moved to a new house, but he has been acting just fine but i thought maybe the stress of the move (and the wreck), even if he doesnt seem stressed at all might have changed his poos.

Oh and Pepper used to be potty trained but hes just over the 3 month mark and he has completely lost all litter training ability lol! well except for peeing. so far he still only pees in the litter tray. but pooping is everywhere!!! lol i guess i shouldnt complain, the pee is the one you have to look out for! i think maybe his hormones are kicking it! lol!

Well anyhow, i set up an appointment to go to the vet thursday. its a general check up and they told me they have a rabbit vet on hand and this was the only time the guy who knew rabbits was available….i will talk with him and see if he seems to be a good vet or not. then if he will i will schedule pepper for a neuter later, maybe after hes had a while to settle into the new house.

I dare say the pooping everywhere is part of exploring & marking the new house. As for the dampness – i think it could be the mucous coating that buns leave on their poop, especially territorial marking poop! Correct me if I’m wrong anyone!

You might want to confine Pepper to a smaller area to settle and re learn litter habits, then increase his space slowly. He may still mark each new area you allow him into but hopefully it’ll be less crazy marking.

This sounds like marking poops.  Does the poop have a stronger, somewhat skunky smell to it?  Bunnies can coat their poops with extra fragrance when they really want to make a statement about claiming territory.  Unaltered bunnies are more likely to do this.

yes the mucous and the smell are definately the type of poop im looking at! thankyou so much you guys described it exactly! i feel so much better now i was starting to get worried. I have confined him to his pen in my room for now (its a 4’x3′ pen with a second level) and i switched his potty box to the corner he has started to slowly have a trend towards. he seems to be doing better so far, i just saw him hop in there and poo then hop out, so maybe its getting better. and im sure it will get much better when he neutered.

another question. am i right to wait for a few weeks while he get settled into the house before i have him neutered? im worried it may be too stressful on him with both at the same time. but then again maybe not. should i get him neutered asap or wait? thanks everyone so much!

Shoot, the bunny boys are little poop machines! And very little of it makes it into the litter box. I have to vac their cage at least twice a day and I think I’m going to have to get a pen and confine them during their out of cage time. One of these days my shop vac is going to bite the dust from over-use and I’ll be ankle deep in bunny turds.

I know they’re still way young, only 7 weeks old, but dang I wish they’d get the hang of the whole litter box thing!

Thumper is perfect. She doesn’t let a single stray poop land anywhere but in the litter box. And she doesn’t chew things. If she would let me pet her she’d be the ideal bunny. So far she only really lets my oldest daughter touch her.
